Scenario 7 - Grand Campaign vs AI - Calm China

Finally got up my nerve to start the dreaded turn 2. Any suggestions are welcome.

I think I'm going to start with the Pacific bases. If I figure what units I want to move where, then I can either start moving those units, or barring that, start prepping them for the move. Here's the status of those bases now:

The atolls - All atolls limit troop capacity to 6000. Therefore, these garrisons will, more or less, consist of the following units:

A Base Force
Marine Def Bn
Artillery unit
Some engineers
Patrol squadron
Maybe some fighters.

I will begin building fortifications, but with the exception of Baker Island, forego improving airfields or ports.

The larger islands- These garrisons will, for the most part, be at least RCT equivalents together with appropriate supporting units.

Garrisoning the Atolls

Pearl Harbor is closed until Nagumo decides to go home, so I look around to see what else is available. Turns out that, just south of Canton Island, there’s TF 407 headed to Suva transporting two base forces and an arty brigade to Suva. Suva can wait! I need these guys elsewhere. I break up the TF as follows:

xAP Chaumont with 115th USAAF Base Force aboard is redirected to Noumea. Noumea is a level 2 port and the 115th is loaded in strategic mode, so the unloading will take a while, but is doable. 115th begin preparing for Noumea.

xAP Republic carrying the 114th USAAF Base Force aboard continues to Suva. I want to send it to Lugarville, but Lugarville is a level 1 port, and the 114th is loaded in strategic mode, so I’ll have to unload at Suva, reload onto a amphib TF using some small Aks brought over from Noumea, and then send it Lugarville. 114th preps for Lugarville

AP Bloemfontein and AK Coast Farmer, loaded with the 131st FA Bn are sent to Canton to unload their wares and then proceed to Pearl Harbor. Unit starts prepping

The remainder of TF 407 carrying the 148th FA Bn and the 147th FA Regt will proceed to PH, The arty units will be unloaded, then reloaded in combat mode and then sent to Palmyra and Johnston.

I’m going to have to wait until the dust settles at Pearl before moving any more units to the atolls, but I can select them and start preparations now.

Midway - OK for now. Later, I’ll set up CS supplies and fuel, and bring up some engineers when they become available

Canton - The CPNABs will withdraw soon. As soon as Nagumo goes home and shipping becomes available, I’ll bring the 118th USAAF Base Force and the 3rd Marine Defense Bn down from Pearl. Units start prepping now.

Baker - Port is level 0, so D Det USN Port Svc and 2nd USMC Engr Regt will be brought down to improve the port. Once that is done, I'll look around for a garrison.

Palmyra - 119th USAAF Base Force and 4th Marine Def Bn will be sent down from Pearl

Johnston - I’m going to leave it alone for now. There are some stateside Bfs that I could bring over, but they provide lots of support, and can be better utilized elsewhere.

One of those elsewheres is Christmas Island, so when I get around to San Diego, I'll load the 101st USN BF and send it over.

Here's what the Pacific bases will look like once the dust settles:

Forget about Baker and Canton. Too hard to resupply until 1943.

First thing is - don't create spreadsheets manually. WitP Tracker will output most of the starting position data, and then you can add columns or rows for the new things you want to do at each base. Go see the sticky thread on the AE main forum page for details on where to get the program and how to install and use it. You'll spend maybe half an hour on that, and then everything else is data-download gravy.

Thanks. This is very helpful. In my two scenario 1 starts, the Japanese AI went after both Canton and Baker in December. I wouldn't ignore them, and keep a task force handy to defend them.

In PBEM; I use Lady Lex and Enterprise to cover Pearl Harbor for a few weeks after 7 December, just in case the Japanese follow-up with an invasion. If your opponent shows up with an invasion fleet you can transfer your Carrier air groups to Pearl Harbor, and run your Carriers out of harms way.
