is it just me or are people just damned lazy to RTFM? Okay, if you don't undertsand something that's fine but some of the q's asked are just mind-numbingly dumb.

lazy. You can appreciate this.....GF told me her friend (who manages an IT group) got a call one weekend about a server that stopped responding. They didn't know what to do. "Did you read the contingencies manual?" she asked. No. If they had they'd have known that all they needed to do was reboot the server.

And to think i can't get a job in IT.

People are idiots. I've been telling you this since three days after I joined this forum.

It's like the old story that Scott Adams once told, about Kodak making a disposable camera called the "Weekender" and people calling to ask if it was okay to use it Monday through Friday. Might be apocryphal, but I somehow doubt it.

Has the inimitable aroma of absolute, hard fact.

Dilbert can be highly enlightening!

Your manager at work wouldn't happen to be a dumpy old sow, would they?

It's not out yet. The public beta has to be finished first...

This reminds me, I have a therapist bill to pay. Still haven't gotten over the last meeting, and LogBoy showing up toga'ed in a replica of HMS Victory's mainsail. The horror...

Listening to Shelby Foote's The Civil War Vol. 1. Fantastic narrative history; the only negative is that it isn't read by the author...

Whenever I read a Lee quote in a book, I hear Shelby Foote's voice. Kind of like reading Chris's posts with a Stewie voice.

I've read the first volume and was into the second several years ago, but got sidetracked. They really do read as if you are "sitting on his front porch with a glass of tea, listening to him tell stories." I met him walking down the street, once, back when I was still in Memphis. No one I was with that day could understand why I was so excited about it.

Now, I have a craving to go watch Ken Burns' Civil War series. Mr. Foote was the highlight of that amazing program.

Foote was excellent in the series although it did make me question Ed Bearss's sanity at a certain point.

Agreed completely. I watched that series just to get a little bit more from him. Most of the other commentators were replaceable, his narrative was absolutely integral to the program. I'll have to see if I can get the narrative history from my library to listen to in the car.

If by "certain point", you mean "every time he appeared on screen", we agree...

Does the Cold War count?

It doesn't matter which war, just that it's The War and it's used to entertain/bore the grandchildren. It's just The War, something that you experienced and your grandchildren can also experience through the medium of long rambling stories.

For added effect, The War can actually be a composite event. Featuring the Cold War, Gulf War and a night out in Portsmouth for example.

Switch off Shaun the Sheep kiddies grandpa's going to tell you about a night out in Port Canaveral during The War...

Isn't "Shaun the Sheep" about grandpa's experiences in the Falklands War?

No need to question it. He was a good friend of my dad's, so that means that his hold on sanity was tenuous at best...

So, which of ya'll oldsers out there saw the recent highly (and annoyingly) touted Prisoner series opener, and think it utterly blew dead bears, when ya compare it to Patrick McGoohan's Prisoner by ITC on PBS and BBC 3 (maybe?).
