Well, first day on the job is done. Everything had essentially collapsed shortly after I left. They'd had TEN people in and out of the place in the past three and a half months to supposedly do my job.

It was nearly embarrassing to talk to my boss. Almost immediately she mentioned that they were almost certainly going to make the position permanent, and how did I feel about staying? Then she back-pedaled and said that I should think about it for a month or two. I said I would...

Never had an employer by the short and curlies before...

what is your job?

Hi all,

Guys, anyone watched new SciFi movie Avatar yet?

We are planning to go soon (today we will see Sherlock Holmes) but we still didn't decide whether to see normal (i.e. 2D) or new 3D version...

Have you watched any 3D movie yet using plastic glasses (we haven't)?

Leo "Apollo11"

Hi Leo,

Haven't seen Avatar in 3D, but have seen several recent Disney releases (with the kids) in 3D. "Up" and "Bolt" were stunning in Disney 3D. I've heard good things about Avatar's 3D, but odds that I'll get out of the house with the wife sans kids are quite long...

Too bad for your employer she didn't initiate a permanent solution before telling you all this. You're got a lot of opportunity for 'beneficial negotiations' now. No reason why you should consider accepting a permanent position unless there's such and such in it for you...

what is your job?

It's my old hospital archive clerk/receiver of patients/odd-job monkey job. There's been a few things removed since I left the first time, which is good, because I'm the only one filling a two- or three-person function at the moment. We shall see what we shall see.

Oh believe me, we'll have a good chat once the time comes. She'll say that as a public institution, the hospital has no money, but we shall see...

I'll stay on for the 3 months in my contract, since that will push me into the highest bracket of unemployment benefits (would be stupid not to), but other than that, time will tell...

Sounds like a great example of what is so often wrong with large organisations. Lack of planning from the top, and/or the Peter Principle at work.

By the way...

I have security level clearance 6. Anyone with a clearance level of 5 or below is to be shunned as a wanton pariah and threat to the state.

What, you ask, does security level clearance 6 allow me? Well, I'd be happy to explain, but then I'd have to kill you.

Back in Stockholm after a 960 km drive in snowy/windy conditions where you would consider yourself lucky if you saw the backlights of the car in front for a distance longer than 20 meters. Man, am I tired ...

Glad you made it back safely, Per! There are very few people in the US, even in Minnesota, who would drive that in those conditions.

Well then please do not tell us. I am too young to die.

And I think my security clearance is zero. Maybe less.

So you drove from your parents place back South to your current home ? I bet that was a long drive. We think we have a big snow fall around here if we get 3 or 4 inches
