if you have it turned on, hit F8, and it will lock your eyes to the target (hit F8 again to change targets) you should also be able to set it to a joystick button, but I not done so yet

(if with in range)

you can use it for firing, if you line your self up, but the main idea is to follow the target

(no such thing as a Stupid or dumb question if you don't know or understand something, that is how you learn)

AH HA!!!!! F8!!!! That's what I'm missing. THX!!!!

ok.. picked up the Logitech Xtreme 3dpro.. and what a difference.. big improvement!!!!.. Now I have smoooooooth rudder action.. taking off is a breeze now!!!.. I may have to try IL6 again...

I tried out the Track IR 3 and wasn't impressed.. could not get it to configure to function properly.. one side would turn too much, the other nothing... maybe it's cause it's a lower version.. but anyways.. the joystick is making things a lot of fun for me!

I currently have an X52 setup, but for some reason just feels very loose and not overly precise. However, not sure if the Logitech will be any better in this regard. Maybe how my X52 currently "feels" is how it is supposed to, I just don't have any experience with other controllers to really compare.

Grim, I bought the X52 a few years back just to see how it was, and it felt way too loose for my tastes, too.

I would recommend trying something else.

You have to reset fuel and convergence before every mission. I hope they change that, but it's not a huge PITA.

did I mention that the DXII is a PIG :)

You inspired me to buy the Pfalz D12 today, Sarge. I ended up buying the combo pack with the Sopwith Dolphin.

You're right, the DXII is a pig!

To stay alive in it, I'm learning that you have to fight in the vertical, not the horizontal. If you try to turn fight with it, you're a dead man.

Good to hear. I think I'm going to pick one up in the near future. It's fairly cheap and I would like to see how it feels.

It's worth it, the game is that much more fun to me, because of the rudder improvement.. I may have to reinstall IL2 which I never really got into before, probably for the same reasons (tough to fly).. I should've thrown out my old joystick long ago!

My sound seems to get bad as I go along in the game for each session. I'd post screenshots of all my victories, but the game somehow hasn't given me credit for my 1000 air victories yet, heh heh.

Actually, I have only managed to just finished Training #1. I had to get the joystick first.

I've debated getting back into flight simming after seeing this but..  doesn't it have some crazy DRM scheme?

I'm not keen on having limited internet activations and don't always have the internet "on" and working.

Yep.. the DRM scheme makes Steam look like kindergarten.. you have to be logged on to even play singleplayer... there's rumor that will change.. but so far that's the case... The game rocks though!!!, got it's lil quirks.. long load times.. plane settings not saving (paint job, gun convergance, fuel load).. careers ending too fast (maybe you should replay all crash landings you survive).. but bottom line, the game rocks!!!

Thanks for the info.

That's terrible, terrible DRM. I'll wait & see if it disappears. Or maybe I should just pirate the damn thing so I don't have to deal with it.

I have to tell this.  I was doing the takeoff and I was thinking, ok, how do I let off the Breaks.  I pressed "B" and as you probably know and I know now, "b" means drop bomb.  I blew up right there on the runway.  I just sat and laughed for about 2 minutes or so.

Question to any of you who have bought all the planes.. I'm thinking of grabbing the Pfalz D.III.. is it as maneuverable as the Albatross?... does the lower upper wing give good visibility?.. In general is this plane an easy one like the Albstros?

As soon as I upgrade my machine I'm buying this. WWI flight sims are my absolute favorites.

cmurphy, I'd like to get together on multiplay.  For reference:  I have shot 2 planes down so far and have played about 2 hours total.  I have no clue about Xfire.

There's a sale going on at the Rise of Flight website.  But, I try to buy a bundle and it says "Not available"?  Anyone else experience this?

How can you set up our own server.  And the planes - no, on that.  It's the Dr 1 and the Camel and I have not bought any extra yet.
