Yech. RTS space crap. Pseudo-wargame fluff. No, thanks.

That said, I have to confess (yes, Brother Mynok and Father T, I have sinned - willingly, of course) that, back in the early days, I was frequently an @$$hole and worse in chauvinistic pursuit of games designed how I doggone well wanted them to be. I lost, of course, and my diatribes about how misguided Grigsby et al. were in various of their fundamental design decisions underlying UV and its progeny are long since lost.

And just as well. Problem is, I came down with permanent laryngitis with regard to game-related subjects, so that now I only infest this place, almost ghostlike, with the occasional burst of ill-conceived attempts at humor.

The point is that I think a lot of good discussion and ideas have been irretrievably lost in the rest of the wanton morass referred to as the Matrix forums. To the diminution of quality in computer wargaming, I think.

So, all you lunatics, keep up the good work here on the thread. I like all of ya (but i certainly wouldn't want to sleep with ya). I believe, though, that it ain't gonna get better, only worse.

Did I mention that I think most of the posters on the general discussion forum are punks, idiots, or idiot punks?

I have been a member of these forums since 2002 (and a member for much longer than that according to some people) but I've never been much of a participant outside of WitP/AE and THE THREAD!!!.  I don't have time for all that crap.  I spend my limited online time reading and learning about the game I love to play and BS'ing with my Brothers.  What else is there? 

It does pain me greatly to see folks who I respect get dragged down into the mud.  Hopefully they will feel welcome here, among their Brothers, even if they don't feel like putting up with the rest of the forum riff raff.

You have a point, but please give them some credit where it is due.


I understand the problem which is lots of forums and not enough people to man them. Moderating is a thankless job but someone has to do it. But the Matrix admins cannot keep up with the ever-flowing course of each forum to understand the players as much as the people in it. So yes, innocents do get caught in the cleanup. Don't be deceived that they don't.

Not complaining. I'm still here. But the troll problem needs to be solved via permanent bans on the FIRST offense, provided it is egregious enough. In this case, this troll had been on the boards bitching about the game for WEEKS. That really is unacceptable laxity. jwilkerson is a nice guy, but often too nice. But others can differ with my view with no ill will from me.



Hey, I never said that everything is fine. But you hit my point pretty well for me with your second sentence. It is a sucky, thankless task. Doubly thankless with certain types of people around here who consider the internet to be a valid outlet for all their bile, bias and stupidity. But as far as I know (and I may be wrong) none of these guys are exclusively paid to moderate. So this is essentially community service for some past sins. And that part I respect. Maybe if they actually hired someone to gendarme this forum it wouldnt be so bad.

Ask JWE. Ask Dixie. Ask Mynok and Terminus. I'm very tired of seeing Good, decent and helpfull people punished for trying to make this game work. I would never be able to use ANY of Matrix's games without the help of members.And it bothers me a lot to see them punished , usually unfairly. Well, we've been told that the subject's not up for discussion , and that our opions don't matter. I'm a customer. And if they don't feel my opion matters , then I guess my credit card doesn't matter either. There , I've said my thoughts, if they want to ban me , great. But I will not purchase another game till I feel that customers and members have some value and are appreciated. I definately don't feel that now. I just feel used.

Yuri, let me concur with you that I respect at least jwilkerson who moderates the Witp forums. I may not agree with his overly nice approach at times, but as has been said before, he may not have the choice considering Matrix's current approach.

We can contribute in a limited to way to helping by diligently pointing out the trolls and giving them the big GB. If the helpful folks will do this, it will go a long way toward protecting them from drive-by's like JWE succumbed (and me as well in the not so distant past). I've hopefully learned my lesson.

FWIW, I enjoy coming to this Matrix-sponsored forum and sharing irrelevancies (mostly) or tips and thoughts on the game (some). I would likely not be going to a third party site for this game, so Matrix's support of my enjoyable experience vis a vis this game includes the forum.

I'm glad that my $ supports THE THREAD!!! and the other good threads that have emerged from this forum. It enhances my experience and promotes me thinking about this accursed time suck 24/7.

Sure, there's some jagoffs and malcontents out there that are looking to snipe first and learn or have fun second. I know who those are and either green button the worst offenders (rare) or ignore the blatherings of those annoying others (mostly). It is curious that a very similar cast of characters seems to get caught up in threads when they go supernova / ad hominim, isn't it? I bail on those beforehand-it helps with the blood pressure, believe me.

That's the way life is though AW1Steve. No public forum is immune to the putzes. Either you learn to deal with the putzes or check out of the social exchange altogether. Stop caring about some people, continue to care about others. It'll be OK.

I've done my bit for King and country by reporting a few trolls when they are plainly obvious. It's part of being a good forum citizen and I expect others to do the same to maintain civil decorum.

Status: offline 		recent Thread discussion on allegedly crap Soviet tanks got me thinking Steel Panthers again. Regrettably a matrix poster's concern about windows 7 proved to be true. SPWAW under Win7 has issues with color. The vaunted XP mode (virtual) won't even run SPWAW reducing it's utility. hmm.....so far no joy. It runs, but the colors remain messed up.
