So there I was going down to the corner store for some more Fat Dog Ale for V Day and the Olympics, and there was Mousa. Syrian christians bought the store and there's a poopload of nephews and cousins workin the counter. Mousa's cool, a righteous, straight up man. So I cruise in and Mousa is perplexed; "jonnn .. can you help me? I must know how is 'all" to spell. Is it "al" or "alle"? He was texting a VD message to his squeeze, and his English bites the mighty wazoo.

One thing leads to another and we ended up with a text of "Happy Valentines day. I send you all my love and give you all my days." The 'all my days' thing was something Mousa really wanted in there; some Arabic thing, perhaps. M'kay, that was good, out it went, and off I go to the cooler to get some beverages.

I come back to the counter, and Mousa is literally in tears. He can't speak. He hands me his phone, and there is his GF's text back: "I love you"

Every now and then, life seems to whack us in the ass, just when it's least expected and most useful.

Yah, old pal. I've been a hopeless romantic ever since my wife died of cancer and I was left with two pre-teenage children to raise as a single parent.

Hearts and flowers.

Great VD story, John!

Yep, John, Mike's exactly right, that is a nice little story. I apologize for being such a crass old b@stard, but I guess days like this one hit me a little harder than I like to admit.

Makes me think of a little Iranian guy who called himself "Harry" who I used to know. His family owned a convenience store, and he worked his heart out on the place. Nice kid. I used to joke around with him about what a handsome young guy he was, and how romance ought to be in his future, and how, as hard as he worked, he ought to be able to retire before he was 30.

He invited me to his wedding. It was a great time, and I can tell you that Harry's bride was destined to keep him satisfied and content with the "five bellyfat rolls of ecstasy."

Nice to "see" you again, too, by the way.

Yah, you, too, but how could you call John's post a "venereal disease" story?

I knew one of my Brothers would call me on that one.  Just wondering who was the most likely.

No, I wasn't.
