Hmmm not sure.

PZB has landed a strong force at Normanton and is driving south fast.

I have 2 Divisions digging in on the road to Cairns and will await his arrival I cannot really commit more without being exposed to an outflanking attack.

I am protecting bases like Bowen, Rockhampton and Cairns with extensive forces including CD guns and am spreading the indpt companies about the interior as anti para forces.

Overall I am not sure what he is up to.

I have one US Division in Australia at present based at Brisbane

So far its a case of wait and see what occurs.

Both the AIF Divs are in Ceylon and are en route to Australia.

I have no idea what he is up to but I will be sending a strong Corps of troops from India to support the Australians if this looks to be real.

Have you upgraded your Aussie units to AIF42 squads already?

No never had enough in the pool.

But I just disbanded the two AIF Indpt Bns in order to accelerate that action so I now have about 100 in the pool so Bdes should start upgradinbg now.

PZB managed to para land at Tennant Creek and take the base from me.

Irritating but not a disaster.

I have a Recce Bn en route that will be there in two days and my retreating force from Darwin is still ahead of the pursuit so I should make it out of the pocket.

A lot of units are en route to Australia - I am watching carefully for a CV raid as that would be nasty at present

My view is this could all be a diversion so I need to be carefull about what I transfer to Australia to help out.

At present I have the Aus Home defence army - which is

5 Inf Divs
1 Inf Divs worth of Bdes
2 Motor/Cav Divs worth of Bdes
8 or 9 Armoured Regts
1 AIF Inf Div at 50% strength
2 Medium Arty Regts (4.5")
2 Field Arty Regts (25 Pounders)
and 2 Cdo Bns

Thats about it

Also in Australia

40th US Div

en route or available if I am willing to take chances elsewhere

754th Tank Bn
132nd US Regt
2nd Marine Regt
138th Regt
159th Regt

In NZ and available
164th Regt
182nd Regt
8th Marine Regt

33rd Medium Regt (60 Pounders)
223rd FA Bn (105mm)

In Fiji
131st, 147th and 148th FA Bns (105mm)

In India
4 Indian Mountain Gun Regts (3.7")
2 Medium Arty Regts
3 Field Regts
6th and 7th Aus Divs
2 x Armoured Bdes
1 x Indian Div
2 Air Group HQ's
1 x Corps HQ

In my two PBEMs where I have had to duke it out in Oz, I found 1) the US armored units to be very handy 2) the B25/26s also to be handy. Lots of open ground in Oz which makes air attacks deadly.

In Spam and Saki my opponent Tim landed at Darwin and Derby. I retreated back to Tennent Creek. The line in the sand has been drawn.

PZB just took Tennant Creek by Para drop I am not to fussed by the northern and central attack as he will struggle to get anywhere important.

Normanton is more dangerous as he can land behind me if I am not carefull so its a balancing act

I will feel a lot better after 1st may and the end of the japanese invasion bonus.

At that point it will take him a lot longer to unload which makes his TF's more vulnerable

2 things.

1. either he knows this and is therefore planning a last huzzah hence all aircraft of of training and onot naval seach for next two weeks....
2. he doesnt know it and will get a seriously nasty shock nect time he tries an amphib landing

After 1st may I become a LOT less vulnerable

I thought the bonus was only for the first four months (& that's what the manual sez). Not true?

Errrr not sure I would trust the manual over my memory if so thats excellent news.....!!!!!!

Anyway Akagi's airgroup was spotted off of Cairns so I have moved my 17's inland in case a Bombardment in incoming.

I need to get organised I have small garriosns scattered across the east coast of Australia.

Still not overly worried by japanese progress but that could change quite easily - i feel on balance for now.

A corps of 2 Divs is facing off to the main thrust and the rest of my forces are either digging in or in reaction forces

Enemy landings at Cooktown today I am going to start to collapse my perimeter a little around townsville taking advantage of the rought terrain

Means giving up Cloncurry but I can live with that Cairns is also probably undefendable,

My Fuel woes continue no matter what I do Australia and NZ cannot get enough fuel to allow the fleet to operate - despite the need for them to be there I need to pull out no and stay out.

I simply cannot operate a fleet in this area yet. Fuel resources are to low and the LOC to long.

Annoying as I have fuel at SF/PH and Capetown but I cannot get enough to stop my economy using it all.

The Cruiser TF at the bottom is almost totally out of gas if KB is close they are toast,

OK new plan Hero project xAK, TK and AO will transport fuel into Australia

Nothing else will move until Aus is floating in fuel

I also need to not transfer any more forces than the minimum to Aus from India to do so would be to cede the intiative in late 42.

Instead I am going to send everything to the border region

Andy

The Oscar has a cannon which some think might be more effective against a bomber. I havent really been to concerned with Oscars though. Tony's and Tojo's do seem more effective than Zeros.

only the last version of the Oscar (Ki-43-IV) will carry two 20mm cannons, none other will do. The last version arrives in 4/45. The best (in terms of armament) available version at the moment would be the IIc with two 12.7mm MGs. And this is by far not what the Zero has which carries the two rifle calibre 7.7mm MGs in the nose and 2 20mm cannons in the wings. A Zero should do (and IMO does) far better against bombers than an Oscar. This was also true in real life.

I was curious about that too. A6M2 compared to Oscar Ic is faster and has a pair of cannon. Not sure why Oscar would be more dangerous to B-17s

You've proabably thought of it already, and it doesn't help with getting fuel from the British bases. But I build up and use Hobart and Auckland for my fuel locations purely because it drives me nuts how the Oz HI steals the fuel.

Done a review of the Indian and british Army in India

8 Indian, 1 British and 1 CW Div

1st Burma Div 100% but very weak in Arty and supporting weapons
18th British Div 100% and strong all round albeit a bit green
17th Indian Div 93% does not need Inf just a bit of Arty to complete TOE
26th indian Div 96% almost combat ready

The above forces are more or less combat ready now.

23rd Indian Div short of critical devices and 2 Bns worth of Inf - needs 70 inf Squads
19th and 20th Indian Divs are both short all kinds of support weapons and a Bde of Inf so 216 needed to bring them up plus shed loads of arty etc
7th and 9th neither will be ready for action for at least a year between them they are short 3 Bdes worth of Inf
11th is cadre only 1%
14th Indian Div will be in reasonable shape

I have about 240 squads in the pool and am trainiong 55 per month

I am criticaslly short of 18/25 Pounders, 3.7" Mtn Guns, 3" Morters, Brens, Vickers MMG's and AA guns

I need to work what is a reasonable assault force for my post Monsoon attack and its objectives and determine the forces I am willing to committ.

My main goal would be to find a force of 6 Divisions all at 100% in Two Corps and an army reserve of 2 Divs

Each Corps to have 2 Indian Divs and 1 British (18th and 2nd when it arrives)
1st Burma and 17th Indian Divs in army reserve

Add to that 7th Armoured Bde and its a powerfull force I need to do some detailed planning to see if I can assemble the requisite force.

Historically the allies committed 14 Bdes to 1st Arakan so 5 Divs moronically controlled from one Div HQ but thats another story...

I am proposing a force of 8 Divs although the additional force comes from units extracted intact from Burma and the strong cadre I got out of Malaya.

So it should be possible to assemble this force and go for an Attack on North Burma

Interesting couple of days its really weird how slow PZB is going in Australia he is giving me time to get back on balance.

I have been doing nothing but using PP's to free up US forces mostly 2 Divs (27th and 40th) ouch !!!

They are both almost in Australia ok not at 100% but in ok shape - with 2 Guard Divs to back up the Aussies.

I also have a solid core of B17's

My only weakness is naval strike aircraft and thats fixable if I offload a CAG or two
