If youre willing to do the research, I'm sure its well documented in an newspaper somewhere.

Nope! It was classified secret! (or at least by the USAF who found it VERY embarrasing!)

Yes, he did. It was supposed to be the title of his autobiography published after his death , but the publisher chickened out.

Must be one of the bad habits he picked up in France.

I was 24 when I learned to drive, never had the need for it before that.

Me, too, Simon, but I had been driving since age 14 anyway.

Slow poke. I got my licence the day I turned 15 so that I could start LEGALLY driving!

And we even get that Russian Crap, er....delicacy that you like!

What will be really difficult for me is that it's a USAF base. The last two USAF bases that I was stationed at , Andrews AFB and Lajes AFB , well , lets just say that I remain incognito when I visit them! Some people just don't have any sense of humor. Then , there that time in 1979 when my whole flight crew got in trouble at Minot AFB . My squadron was permanetly banned after THAT airshow!

Now you got me curious ... what did you do?

If you are serious , let me know and I'll pm you. I think the statute of limitations has run out now. Unlike that little "international incident the same crew had with a Soviet spy ship off Capr Cod.

Never mind. It wasn't that important.

Back in Ioway where I grew up and started aiming (I learned to drive much later), you scored points for hitting pedestrians. One of the admired feats, for example, was for the driver to get close enough to a pedestrian that the shotgun rider could nail him or her with the car door.

Points were subtracted, of course, for elderly or infirm targets.

And here I though that was just an old joke.

no, you get extra points for the infirm and wheelchair bound.

Not to mention grumpy old geezers ...

When i speak with most people at work/in family/or else, i have a feeling of cultural superiority .
When i come to this forum, i losse this feeling really quick
(i mean, people are really good here in culture, knowledge, joke, intelligence, and so on)

Well, I figured that thats where you learned to curse in Russian. Pas on the other hand.... Pas, what was it you did for the CIA....errr, Air Force again?

Cursing in Russian, or any Slavic language, has risen through usage to the level of an art form. Any Eastern European child, from Poland to Kamchatka can get forever into your shorts and turn you Nordic. Don't ever want to mess with these folks. They have had several hundred years of practice amongst themselves.

a Rolls for the weekly trip to market.

HAH! A true English auto fancier ("They're poorly designed and don't work very well, but, by gawd, we love 'em") would NEVER insult Mr. Royce like that.

And where's your MG "if you want to go up a hill, better pray for a tailwind" sports machine?

I always perferred the MG midget. When you couldn't get it to run , you simply picked it up and carried it!

I've actually got an MG, well sort of Not an MGB or anything like that mind, a ZS, a 2.5L engine is a nice bit of poke for a young lad like I was when I got it.

Mr Royce is partly responsible for plenty of skinned knuckles, bruised arms and infected cuts I realise they aren't the same company anymore, but still Mr Rolls is just as bad.

That's right . I had forgotten that they started making them again after the Leyland fiasco. You can't get them in the USA or Canada unfortuantely.

Pas on the other hand.... Pas, what was it you did for the CIA....errr, Air Force again?

NSA, dood, let's be sure to keep the major sources of national defense misinformation that lead to ridiculous assessments and ill-informed actions that permanently damage the nation's image and respectability in the world straight, okay?

I mean, when you have dozens of sources of raw intelligence that dutifully pass it on to the next higher level where a bunch of nincompoops make arbitrary, stupid decisions about what to retain and what to discard while creating nonsense summaries based on ridiculous personal judgments and sophisticated assessments of the kind that led, for example, to the neat lining-up on the airfields of the fighter defense forces before Pearl Harbor for slaughter by any incursive force, like hostile Japanese or even p1ssed-off penguins, then repeat the process through half-a-dozen ludicrous levels of analysis and reportage until a final document titled "Daily Intelligence Summary" is created and laid on the president's night stand (in whosever townhouse or apartment it might be - see, he has to stay in touch at all times) for his examination and action, what can you expect but perfection?

I was a proud participant at many levels in that process, but take even greater pride in creating the above sentence, which is unbelievably long, opaque and nonsensical in its own right, kind of like my years of service to the intelligence community...

Actually the lead AW on my crew was in his civilian job a spook for ONI. His russian was very good. He'd often give us real time simultanious translations on anything we'd over hear. And he was always swearing at the other senior chief AW on my crew in Russian. THAT's were I learned a few Russian curses.

Fortunately, they dont run any aspect of the military. In fact, afaik, they dont hold any positions of responsibility at all.

Except the positions they are sometimes elected to.
