Once again  things are 'interesting" in DC. Last evening some moron decided to play shoot out at the OK corral with the guards at the Pentagon! Geez! What kind of a fruitcake tries to play shoot out with some of the best armed, best trained security people in the world? It's about as effective as trying to stop a truck (lorry) by throwing a bluebird at it! About the only thing he succeeded in doing was screwing up the morning commuter traffic by forcing Metro to close the station while the CSI people do their investigation. Really , that's like trying to get back at your enemy by bleeding on his carpet!

Apparently he wounded (lightly?) two of them. The kicker is, it does not seem to have much to do with the middle east or terrorism (in the common sense).

Middle east? Try again my friend.....he was from another terrorist state...California! He drove cross country, parked at a parking garage, then hopped on the Metro for one stop.
Imagine trying to take out two well armored cops (and these are not your local mall-cop rent-a-cop, these guys are definately some of the best trained cops in the country) and right behind them are lots of other cops with full auto weapons behind bullet proof protection. This had to be a case of what my cop friends call "suicide by cop".

Didn't realise it was out yet.

It is out...but buggy and incomplete, as one can see in forums.

When has UbiSh*t ever released a game that wasn't a colossal, steaming puddle of diarrhea?

Thanks buddy. I was eating breakfast when I read that.

Were you having corn pops too? Try not to envision any particulate matter in that steaming puddle, will ya? That would really make things worse.

Like chocholate pudding?

It's geographically dead center in the middle of the USA. Which is why it was chosen to be headquarters for the Strategic Air Command (now absorbed by Strategic Command, the reason my spouse has orders there) during the cold war.

Of course in two years I'll probably be back in either Washington DC or Jacksonville Florida so you might want to put off your visit till then , unless you really like steak, corn and horses!

Hey, i like Steak and corn, and my spouse like horses. I mean, not for eating, you see

Cool. And of course there will be airplanes. Lots and lots of airplanes. And beer.

Steak, beer, corn and airplanes? You know, Steve, I could be in Nebraska in about 8 hours drive...

Don't forget that North Platte, NE has the world's largest railroad classification yard.

And Council Bluffs Iowa , has the Union Pacific museum. Someone told me that ther are 5 railroad museums in the area. To bad I don't get enthusiastic about trains.

In reference to WITP AE, Hastings, Nebraska was the site of a huge naval ammuntion storage depot. When I was a kid it was miles and miles of bunkers. I wonder if it's still there.

By the way, August sounds good to me, too.

By the way, found a youtube video of the Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgGf5E7y380

Thanks , I'll check it out, and the bunkers (when I get there).

Nah. And I'm not squeamish either. But I could certainly have done without that.

We plan on taking leave in less than two weeks. We are considering doing a "round Robin" trip to do some touring and errands on the way. Possibilities are DC to Millington TN (location of USN Bureau of Personnel--chance to meet and thank my wife's detailer!) then direct to Omaha. After we finish our stuuf there , we'd like to combine it with a vacation/errand trip going due south to the gulf coast (also avoiding winter weather) through New Orleans, Mobile,Pensacola (one day stops at most) then to Jacksonville to take care of updating things like drivers licences, voter registration, banking, etc. Then back to DC. Obviously everything would be flexible , determined by time, weather and intrest of the moment.

Somewhat related to disgruntlement.

My 08 return had to be amended because I forked up the routing number. So I amend it and send it in . . . nope can't amend, must use 1040X . . . sent in 1040X . . . nope, should have amended return, not used a 1040X . . . arghh. Anyway, finally talked to an IRS gargoyle who said they received my return and that is was being processed in the Austin service center. This occurred last week of Jan. To make a long story somewhat shorter . . . you can guess what the next IRS gargoyle that I spoke to said when I called about the status last week.

I seriously doubt the plane hit my return but suspect a standard governmental use of tragedy as an excuse. I used to have to request a lot of documents from a governmental depository in Ft. Worth. Whenever I had a particularly difficult/important one to find they invariably said that it was lost with all the other documents in some warehouse fire in 1969. Happened repeatedly.

BTW, great euphemism. The IRS rep never used the word 'lost' to describe my return, only 'disassociated'. Lost would imply error I imagine. I asked the rep what my return had been associated with in order to become disassociated, he didn't know. Unfortunately, it's stuck in my head and I'm using it now.

Speaking of disgruntled; been trying to send a couple bottles of Arcadian, Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, Pino to Brother Mike for a while now. Tried twice and each time, they disappeared into the black hole of a State Beverage and Franchise Tax beaurocracy. Somewhere, there's some cheapo Ole Yeller bourbon guzzlin, mirror shades wearing, gum chewing, overweight, good ole boy who's drinking some wicked good stuff.

Maybe next time, I'll label it "Fragile - Moslem Extremeist Biological Warfare Materials - Do Not Open." Definitely going to try again. In the meantime, found another winner - Ketchum Estate, Russian River, Pinot.
