Nice. Very nice, but lo, how the Empire has fallen. Am gratified, however, to know that my (relatively) English speaking cousins know a bit more French than is necessary to order from a continental menu. Curious, though what Tsvetaeva or Ehrenberg could make of Devuska Voskresenye.

Sorry, am I getting too Pasternakski with this? Don't mean to be, just having fun.

Whoa - JWE invented a new adjective; being "Pasternaksi"! What really scares me though, is that I understand perfectly what it entails

So Dixie , are we counting this as 70's number or 80's? If I recall Blondie released it in Europe in 79. And other places in 1980.

Woof !! I feel inadequate; a new term - being Pasternakski - wow. Because our Swedish speaking brothers discovered this amazing new linguistic artifact, they should have the opportunity of defining it.

In Russian, it's a pain, way too many sylables, so what would it be in Swedish? C'mon Per, make it happen.

Ciao. John

The 1980's were an era where some of us liked the music and girls (please try NOT to throw up Kristian, I know your feelings on the subject). But the 1970's were the polyester uears , and the 1990's were the age of rap. The 1980's were to me a brief oaisis.

The 90s were certainly not all rap.

You liked grunge, didn't you? 'fess up!

I'm going to agree with Steve on this, it was not all rap. We had Oasis, Blur, The Verve, Pulp, Ocean Colour Scene, Stone Roses, James, Garbage, Men at Work. There was some good stuff towards the end as well, the Stereophonics and Travis.

And, er, Take That, Boyzone and the Spice Girls

I've got to admit to a bit of 80's nostalgia though. The Clash, Elvis Costello, Genesis. Dear Thread I'm uncool And the Kinks.

If liking The Clash, Elvis Costello, Genesis and the Kinks is "uncool", I guess that's what I am. Blur, Garbage and The Verve were good.

Loathed Oasis, though. My Good Thread, they sucked.

I liked Oasis, they peaked with What's the Story. Their recent stuff was pretty pants really, except the importance of being idle. But that's just one song.

I think the only band since 2000 that's made it onto my playlist is the Kaiser Chiefs. The Verve stopped me from going mental in Al Udeid a couple of summers ago, almost every radio station was playing Kid Rock's song. BFBS was playing Love is Noise instead.

Dixie (et. al.): I have a very strong liking of some of the Brit trance / electronica outfits from the 1990s and early 2000s. Colourbox and Way out West spring to mind as some of the best in the genre. I know a few Colourbox hits made top 10 lists out there ("The Moon is Blue" became a college love anthem). What say you?

Excellent song.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I was a grunge fan: Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. Loathed Nirvana; Kurt Cobain was the epitome of scumbagginess...

Couldnt stand Nirvana, but you gotta admit that some of their riffs were pretty good. Once in a blue, if myself a guitar and some girls are in the same place I'll run through the intro to Smells Like Teen Spirit. The effect is consistently positive.

I can't think of Nirvana without thinking of the Weird Al version. He really can ruin a song for you! Thank goodness!

Absolutely.

"It's hard to talk, Garble-mrofw, with all these marbles in my mouth.."

ETA: In terms of his 'originals', my favorite has got to be the DEVO-esque: "Dare to be Stupid". I consider that a personal mission...

Hmm, it turns out my reinstall "problem" wasn't so bad after all. I have collected ten pieces of essential software that I have reinstall on my new computer for it to have the same set of core functions as the old one. Then I have to copy over my FF bookmarks file and my home banking key, and I'll be set.

All the other stuff can be installed at my leisure.

No, I'm paying my computer store to install it for me as part of the deal. Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM.

The whole deal, including OS, is just over $2,000.
