ORIGINAL: JWE Nice. Very nice, but lo, how the Empire has fallen. Am gratified, however, to know that my (relatively) English speaking cousins know a bit more French than is necessary to order from a continental menu. Curious, though what Tsvetaeva or Ehrenberg could make of Devuska Voskresenye. Sorry, am I getting too Pasternakski with this? Don't mean to be, just having fun. Whoa - JWE invented a new adjective; being "Pasternaksi"! What really scares me though, is that I understand perfectly what it entails There's precedent for that sort of thing, you know. I think of "Kafkaesque" and "Orwellian," for example. Not to mention "Nixonian," "Machiavellian" and "Dylanesque." For you freaky Greeks, there's always "Aristotelian," "Socratic" and "Platonic." My partner in ennui seems to be suffix-challenged, however, and his new adjective seems to lack panache as a result. "Pasternakskittish" seems to ring Notre Dame's chimes though, n'est ce pas?
