Hello everyone!

I am considering buying this game. Did anybody applied the recent 1.12 patch already and tried it? If so, what are your observations regarding the improvements from non-patched version? Thanx in advance for any feedback.

I haven't tried the new patch yet but have played the release version quite a bit. The bugs were fairly minor anyway so now that the patch has been released I think you are safe to buy the game. It is great for playing email games.

I too am thinking of purchasing Horse and Musket. I believe there is animation for movement and combat? I 've played a number of the old Talonsoft Napoleonic and Civil War games and currently have HPSSIMS 1776 which I have yet to play. Any opinions on comparisons between Horse and Musket and something like 1776 would be much appreciated.

I have played and still play most of the HPS pre-nineteenth century titles; though not 1776. I prefer the H&M engine personally. H&M does have animation for the units. My main gripe with the HPS engine is that there is no defender auto-reaction like in H&M. This can cause problems for Infantry defending against Cavalry since you have to form Squares well in advance. I wish HPS had a Defender reaction attempt during the Defensive Fire phase like in H&M so that Infantry could attempt to form Square in response to a Cavalry charge. I think with the planned improvements for H&M that it will easily outshine the HPS engine.

The patch is definitely an improvement, as it fixes cavalry combat (which was the one major issue the game had upon release), adds more scenarios and also increases stability (you can now alt-tab out safely, which is a real blessing for PBEM and those of us with more than one screen)... even the AI seems a bit smarter (or rather, less ineffective).  And don't forget the editor, which, while not a patch feature, is (one of) the game's greatest assets, as it lets you finetune just about everything to your personal preference with relative ease.

First of all sorry, i know that i write in an old threat but dont want open a new when this is open.

Well, i think buy this game in next matrixgames holiday sale, what do you think about the game??? i am a HPS Napoleonic veteran (have others titles like REN and MAW) and like it but using club rules hehehe, HPS games have the problem of not activation system in formations and dont like the cavalry combat system... comparing bot games what do you think??

And dont forget moding, i see here some great portrait moding works and a proyect??? to made 3D art more real with true soldiers line but is dead??? in custom scens... i think that many of then are included in the last patch no???

Ooo any news about Volumen 2??? any idea of period to cover??? same war, different front, or maybe new conflict??? thanks.

Well, all opinions and information are wellcome

Pluses:
the numbers of scenario is growing all the time
you can use great editor, with some many options that you can have headache
greate animations
Minuses:
Some bugs, but most eliminated in patch 1.12, rest we are working on

Volume II will including battles with Russians, Allied and French

Thanks for the fast reply, ummm the game have animations... yep, a video sounds great to see this game in all his splendor.

Comparing with HPS games... well, HPS games have supply (isnt perfect but at least your units have low ammo effects and you can play with supply units) but not an activation system so sophisticated as in H&M only a fixed system, HPS has "worst" graphical look (modders change this and do a great job) but i only play in 2D, 3D looks fine in H&M but find units a little... small??? here i find a idea for a mod but dont see more information about it and is so close to the 3D mod that i use in HPS games.

I read that the game have "problems" with screen resolution... i have a 22 monitor and for example using the supported resolution in H&M in SSG Kharkov the look is a little... of course in screenshots H&M looks fine but after installing it... well.

I add H&M Vol1 to the Christmas list and i try it, the improvements for Vol2 sounds great... any information about it??? close (one year or less) or far in time???.

Again thanks for your reply and interest uploading a video in youtube

EDIT: ooo the game use classic turns or a phase system??? thanks.

How is supported PBEM (password, replay, security)?

AI is now (after Patch 1.12) working  better. Player can won with medium skills but they will learn his mistake very harmfull ;P. PBEM is vert fast for such games, you write once password and then play easy. After download you better deleted old file (cause can have the same name;P). If your oponent try play one turn twice you will known that.
P.S> My Czech is quite good,
Dobry den!

Now that Matrix Games has its Xmas sale on I am considering buying Horse and Musket. One question though for those of you who already own it. The native resolution of my 22" monitor is 1680 X 1050. Does this game support this resolution? Thanks.

I think it will appeare when all units get his own portraits. For now it's only few in Sub-forum for mode and scenarios.
