Symptom: When you 'get' a new design, either by encountering a delerict ship/base, or loading designs from an older game, you will be able to build those designs regardless of whether or not you actually have the technologies required for the various modules.

Reproduction: 1) Start a high tech game, create a few high tech designs then save them. (or just save the default ones) 2) Start a low tech game, import your saved designs. 3) You will be able to build the ships/bases designed with the high-tech modules of the other game regardless of the individual technologies being available to you.

Suggestion on fixing this: A) 'aquired' designs should not be available in the design screen (you just do not get a design for it or hide the design), without that, i could build whole set of designs based on an aquired advanced design by copying it and building the new stuff around the advanced modules. (tho this is not really an issue, if you do B) and B) there should be a technology check before commencing with the building of a ship/base, that makes sure you posess the technology necessary to actually build that item. Items you are unable to build should be marked (say shown red) in the design screen.

I have also noticed this. All of my high-advanced ships that i found drifting in space can be build without any problems regardless of my current tech level. For example being able to construct a ship with hab and life support of level 3 while i`m still on level 1.

I'd like to note that this is only possible when building ships via right-clicking on the starbase and using that build menu. The construction screen correctly screens out designs you do not have the tech for.

I want to point out that I encountered one instance where I had access to the blueprints of a ship that I couldn't build. Actually these blueprints replaced my then current Frigate's when filtered by the 'show latest only' checkbox. It used an auto-repair component, that may be a special tech of a different race (the race in question offered it to me for an exorbitant price of ~800K).   I could base an upgraded design on these blueprints (whether through 'copy as  new' or 'upgrade' I do not remember) and ended up with a design which I couldn't upgrade to as I had intended. This was pre-patch, so I don't know whether I was running afoul of a bug fixed therein. I think I didn't try to build any ships from scratch using this design.
