Hi Freeboy, wants you hit the Design button (the D next to the lightbulb), you see this screen. Click the "Add New" to add a new design. It also will help to uncheck the "show latest designs" in the top left of the window.

You have to make a new design (from scratch or by using "copy as new") or upgrade an existing design (obsoleting it) and then editing the new design you get. Upgrade won't work unless you have researched at least one better component than the ones used in the old design.

How do you change or add a name to a ship? Clicking on the field doesn't do anything, and I can't find a button.

Redd, you should be able to click on the box that I circled and enter a name. If you can't do that for some reason, it may be a bug. As you see, it works fine for me.

Duh! Didn't see that but thought it must be something simple like that. Many thanks.

You can not edit an existing design because a ship of that design exists thus its design must remain in your data banks. :) So, the way is to "copy as new" the change and name the new design.
