i registered, but there doesn't seem to be an option to change my password... that would be nice if there was one.

I had this problem too. I can't remember now, but if you see where it says passwork, just erase it and put in a new password. It dosn't ask you to repeat it to verify that they are the same, so be carefull you type it in correctly.

I DON'T see it, thats the problem

EDIT: ok, i found it... after login, you need to click on "My Account", in "My Account" there is a field called "password" that lets you change your password, as Davor said, there is no verification so type it in right the first time.

Um, where is the link for this? Boy I feel stupid. NVM

You need to register the game w/ Matrix Games. After that the patch is available to you under "registered Downloads"

Good stuff here. Hope all the non-player error refueling dilemmas disappear.

It's not showing that I own Distant Worlds.

***Edited *** It shows up just fine when I register it. Just a senior moment..they come and go....more frequently now than they used to......

From a prior save or a new v1.0.3 game? Do you have any listing or description of the error?

from a prior save, and there was no error description, just windows' standard "program performed an error and needs to terminate" thing. (not in those exact words)...

speaking of... on 1.02 i had one such crash... well I kept playing without pressing the "close" button, then i tried to save, it got a 16MB file (normal save is 64MB) before terminating (save was corrupt)... but it seemed to run completely fine before it finally terminates.

Started a new game. So far so good! No issues with crashing and the game seems to be playing much faster performance-wise.

Here's to hoping for a scrap ship button in the Shipyard screen and a "retrofit all" button!

EDIT: I found one issue in the patch, but I'm not sure if it's intended. When you use the "Upgrade" button in the design screen, it doesn't automatically obsolete the old AI created design. I understand that it isn't supposed to obsolete player-created designs; however, shouldn't it auto-obsolete an upgrade of an AI design? At least I think it should.

My strategy was to custom create my military ships and auto-upgrade everything else. Eventually I had 4 different non-obsolete star bases, construction ships, mining vessels, etc. IMO the old designs should have been made obsolete.

Otherwise, great patch!

the upgrade button should obsolete ANY design, AI or Player Created...
the AI shouldn't obsolete player created designs by itself; but if you select a design that you created and click upgrade then it should obsolete the old one.

it would be nice if the design screen had tabs at the top or bottom that correspond to the "roles"... that way you only select one role, and can then sort by name, date, subrole, etc. while still only seeing ships of that role...

Just had a crash this morning (new game with 1.03 beta)
It was a 100 star galaxy and it happened just after conquering the last planet of a civilization (i.e. removing them from the game).
What happened is that i got a diplomacy message saying i met a new race (which btw was just eliminanted? maybe cause of the ships that were there? ) then the game crashed.

I'm not home now but if you want i can try to reproduce it, i have a savegame 5 minute before the invasion

Dunno if this is new, but I've never seen it before. My automated destroyers and escorts which are on patrol under the command of the automation are causing all sorts of diplomatic incidents by deciding to refuel at other empire's gas mining bases and spaceports. I have to manually tell them to refuel elsewhere.

loaded up a save game of 1.03 and the message dialog box is blank. If I go to the message queue all the messages are there to peruse.

Managed to reproduce it!
I've uploaded it as fabio80mi ghostciv crash 7april

There is a jpg and the save itself, the crash happens when i click the notification on the right side about the new empire encountered (which is the one i just eliminated :P)
In the savegame i've sent you the invasion is about to occurr, if everything goes to normal invasion is succesfull and you see in the empire the planet and ships turn blue (my color), soon after however i receive a notification about a new empire encountered "combined kelarov council" if i click on it the game crashes.
If i completely ignore the notification everything works fine (empire is not in my diplomacy list)

So far good work in 1.03 :) very little time passed and you're showing great support so far =)

Is it a big deal to install the beta patch and then install the release patch over that? I tend to prefer to wait for the release patch. Any ETA on that, Erik?

@Grotious
If it anything similar to what happened to 1.02 there wont be any problems at all, go ahead and install the beta patch!
As for your last request i believe they said release will come just a few days later, so i fully expect it to be here for weekend (unless something major comes up)

I asked something like this for 1.02. Eric's answer was no. But if problems do persist when playing an old game, start a new game. You just never know what can happen from save to new patch, but said in most cases there shouldn't be a problem.

Hm. In my game it does not. Does this happen with anyone else? Does it work as taltamir says it should?

got more play time now... clicking on upgrade obsoletes the old design and makes a new design... regardless of who made it...
the AI makes new designs and does NOT obsolete the old ones, regardless of who made it... so i get a huge massive collection of non obsolete designs in 1.03... I switch to "show all non obsolete"... then I sort by subrole, then I go to a subrole... say... capital ship.
I see i have 7 capital ships. I obsolete 6 of them (click on the leftmost part of their "line" under the heading obs.) and then i select the 7th one and click upgrade. That refreshes the window... obsoleting all 7 and making a new non obsolete design... if I obsolete all 7 and then select one, there is a chance it is already the latest design which sometimes makes it obsolete without designing a new design, I think... either that i keep on missing them... actually so far it only happened to me on gas miners and miners... so maybe it has to do with those...
either way, i have to bulk obsolete ships manually

Just a question. How come when you try to edit a PC ship you can't add any components to the ship? When you select the component to click it looks like the cursor wants to change, but it flashes real quick back to the pointer. And you can't add anything?

If a design has already been built (has active ships) then you cannot change the design, you have to create a new one.

Actually there is a workaround (or exploit) that can be used:

We expect the official release to happen today - we made a few more fixes based on the public beta feedback and are verifying those this morning.
