ORIGINAL: bigmed1204 Always wanted to learn french but i think i'd be better off learning something closer to russian. although i'm afraid of 2 close languages intermingling in my brain. Afternoon by the way. Sadly, i must confess that speaking french is of no use actually, except for tourism in France. But nothing more request to learn it by now. 3 century ago, sciences, philosophy, history, were all discussed in french. Well, of course, 5 century ago it was in latin, and 20 century ago it was in ancient greek . Each era has it's main language. And tourism in Belguim,Parts of Switzerland, and many other parts of Europe where French is a second language. Not to mention many parts of Africa, the middle east, some asia and about half of Canada. About Canada.....well, Quebec is talking a old form of French. And sometimes, it is hard to understand for "modern" french (here, modern doesn't mean "better" but just "newest" ). In Quebec I was always told it was patois. They told me it meant "Bastardized".
