Good evening, Brother Onime.

Leo refers to GG's still in development War in the East. The long awaited successor to the old War in Russia. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=695

I'm sure it will be awesome, but I'm in a monogamous gaming relationship with WitP.

Individual officers have values for rank (A-Z), co-ordination (important during army by army activation), pursuit (# of corps that can expoit a breakthrough), sacking (how easy it is to get rid of them), obstination (how many rounds you're forced to fight before you can retreat) and attack and defence bonuses. There are also other bonus 'abilities' that they can have. The Russian general Rennekampf is easier to sack because he loyalty is suspect. Others can't be sacked as they're part of the royal family of their nation. Some get bonuses to gas usage or tanks.

Units don't gain exp, but at the rate I've been taking casualties that's not a surprise Destroyed corps aren't always destroyed, it's used to describe a unit which has become so badly hit that it's removed from the front line. They usually get put back into the front the month after as reinforcements at half strength.

The Russians start the game in pretty poor shape really. No railway usage for the initial turns and they suffer penalties to mutinies, strikes and industrial rolls. The possible Russian coups can remove some of those penalties or have other effects.

'Red' coup (CP advantage): Lenin takes power and will sue for peace.
'White' coup (Entente advantage): Kornilov takes power. Civil production is decreased and military dictatorship carries on fighting.
'Blue' coup (Entente advantage): Kerenski takes power, gives advantages to social rolls (strikes etc) and a bonus to Russian Grand Offensives.

Interesting stuff, Dix. How poor must the Austrians be if Russia is to be able to replicate her initial successes?

I've only dabbled with the Russian side of things, but from memory the A-H troops are of a similar quality to the Russians but there are less of them. I may be wrong though.

And a blessed 76F good morning to you too, RAdio Detection And Ranging. How's North Carolina this time of year?

Spring and fall in central NC is hard to beat...usually cool in the am and 80-85 (F) by mid-day. I've even acclimated pretty well to the hot summers...I hate to see them go (except it means that football season is near).

Greetings, Brother!

Glad to hear things are easing a bit.  When do you leave for your safari?  I leave the country and officially go on rum consumption duty for 2 weeks on June 8th.

What I know about football is that it means hockey season is about to start.

I've always thought that's a decent consolation prize for losing summer...

Trying out the WWI demo. So far so good. I haven't played this developers other games so the layout isn't intuitive, but we will see.

I tend to follow pro football the most, especially the polictically incorrect Redskins. I do watch or attend a lot of college games. I have really been turned off by the BIG college programs--Alabama, brought to you by Nick Saban, Gator Nation, THE Ohio State University, etc. I root for the small colleges such as Wake Forest or Navy. They play classic football and manage to knock-off the big boys every now and then.
