Been wondering when we are going to get a sneak peek at the next in the H&M series ?
IIRC there was talk the next title will center on Russian ?

PS: not that I have grown tired of volume I , on the contrary I find I've become addicted to the H&M engine to fulfill my musket tactical fix, as I have stated before this engine screams Colonial wars !

I figure it will be quite a wait until we see anything on the next game. I really hope I am wrong because I too love S&M, err, H&M games.

An update on progress would be nice to have, but there's no rush. We've already seen some of the new artwork, so we know that is well underway, and scenario-making simply takes a lot of time.

H&Mv1 still more than satisfies my urges at this point, though, and a new game would probably just interfere with my work schedule right now. ;)

Next part have more than 5 battle pack scenarios (one pack for scenario would have 3 or more sub-scenarios) with Russians of the 7yw. I'm going to preaperas as many scenarios as I can. In plan is adding bonus pack with Swedens.
Unfortunatelly  we (scenarios designers) still waiting for new game engine with new editor (large battlefield 300x300 hexes will avaible) and new units graphics. It is planed soon maybe this mounth. Then some of half year for scenario making and testing :)
I'm responsible for Russians battles
Any propositions? Questions?

Do you know, Prinz Heinrich, what are the new features planned in volume II ( keyboard shortcuts, AI tweaking, indirect fire, optional single phase system, new attack column formation, more detailed losses report, ....) ??

I would like to play the H&M, 7th year war-scenarios etc. with an individual unit-pic for every (unlimited number of) unit like the known HPS games.
So the limited graphic on the battlefield would not hurt so much.....

Greetings

To Uffz Feuerhake
Never play HPS, what do you mean? Every unit have individual graphic?
To everyone:
New part of the game would have few amazing thinks like horse artillery and arc fire by howitzer and mortars. 5 degree commander chain and lots of other stuff.

Thanks for those informations about the new features, PrinzHenrich.
I have just a suggestion for the scenario design : there is a feature that is not used in the game. You can give to a unit some instructions (defend, attack, ....) in the scenario editor. Among these instructions, there is an "escort" order. Could it not be used in this 2nd title to create small escort units for the high rank leaders ?

PrinzHenrich:
When you "click" on an HPS unit, it brings up a .bmp that shows the solider in a much more detailed uniform. Each unit has one of these assigned so you can see the detail differences between all individual units.

Orders or instruction to Initial Order AI unit

This instruction have been given in my small scenario to most off units. I have experiment with this feature with different results. Sometimes it give desire results, sometimes (mostly) undesire! It is double difficulty to preapere such instruction for two sides armies. I always test them after to see if my order give the scenario historical background. I switch both AI play and observe behaviour of units. SOmetimes an orders have no effects in game, like their never had been given.
So it is hard work to make good and playable [historical] battle scenario!
About this escort order I haven't large experience in this, but You  give me good suggestion for "Russians fusiliers soldiers" different roles in compare with line infantry.
In High rank leader could be name as "adiutants" [have even idea for graphic] but haven't any influence for battle effects. If someone attack this esscort unit propability than their leader died is more than 90%, moreover artillery now will avaible to fired it and eliminate at the beging of the turn [with no contacts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
It will look like all artillery "hunt" enemies leader, not fired at their troops.

To PrinzHenrich:

Ok, original HPS has not really an individual graphic for every individual unit.
But it is very easy to add in the unit.bmp hundrets of individual graphics with individual flags etc.
And there are a lot of mods.
With this new added graphics you can change in the oob-file with new x/y-coordinates every unit-pic!

So it is possible to represent every historic correct uniform for every unit.
http://i39.tinypic.com/o0xan8.jpg

This would be a nice addition in the Horse&Musket-games!

Yes off courseit is also makeable in HnM vol. 1-2. All You have to do is draw good in GIMP or Photoshop TGA picture file, then delete on txt  file and paste your graphic to folder with units.
Exemple I using now  graphic for Prussians LAnd Units and Swedens not avaible for others player now!!! Magnus send me it, so I can make scenario from Swedish War theatre.

Hmmm, HnM graphic is better and with animation
See this picture,
I can change "looking" of every soldier in one single unit, and even their position on the group and formation of every units SEE OFFICER behind the line in upper unit.

To Prinz Henrich,

yes, I know....maybe I have used a wrong term (my school-english is a bit rusty )...I dont mean the 3D-pics on the battlefield, I mean there is a additional "avatar"-pic for every unit.
Please have a look on the left side of the pic, there you can see two soldiers of the Austrian Landwehr, every pic (in combination with the changing factors strength, moral etc.) stands for one battalion....

http://i39.tinypic.com/ea5wn8.jpg

So it is possible to use hundreds of individual avatars...this is eye candy....but H&M is in this point a bit .... conventional.

To Prinz Henrich,

These 3D-pics are really great!!!, BUT I think, you know what I mean

Sorry, I mean the little additional (HPS...) 58 x 78 pixel-pic, which would answer the questions about:
Did this unit wear a moustache or not?
What is the color of buttons of the unit?
What are the ponpon-color of the grenadiers/fusiliers cap?
Is the sword of the officer silver or golden?

Mmm, I have 2 Meter books about SYW-uniforms of every nation etc. etc.
Maybe I have other focal points.....

Uff Feuerhake,
I do know what you mean by the unit portraits on the side in the HPS games. It is a nice feature, but would require a huge investment in time to get all those graphics for all units.

You can bring up the unit stats in HnM and see a larger portrait. This can even now be set per unit in the editor, but I do not have plans to go back and add in unique images for every unit.

Regards,
Tim

Hmm, in this resolution it is very difficult saw that the buttom are gold or silver, but the color of some typical regiments are all right as in historical sources:
This is the largest picture you can see in the game

p.S> What book do you have?

Actually the units is very detailed if they would have been in a larger scale. I have added all buttons, knapsacks, laces, lapels etc etc to the textures of the units. However the small scale we are using for them you mostly don´t see them at all.

To Tim:

Tim wrote: "I do know what you mean by the unit portraits on the side in the HPS games. It is a nice feature, but would require a huge investment in time to get all those graphics for all units."

I don' t think so. It would be sufficient for the basic game to use one portrait for one type of soldier like Musketier / Fusilier / Grenadier / Husar / Kürassier etc. etc. for every nation.
Ok, f.e the basic game of HPS Jena & Auerstaedt is using "only" 120 portraits for all armies.

But it is easy - and of course time-consuming - for modders to "inflate" the graphic file to historic correct 1:1.

Yes, the H&M vol. 1-engine with the wonderful editor etc. seems to be a shade more sophisticated and the original HPS games are graphically suboptimal too, but there is a bigger modding scene because the HPS-engine offers a bigger "graphic modding-playground"

In combination with the great 3D-unit pics of Prinz Heinrich it would be really a nice feature to see simulaneous the painted / scanned and reversed portrait of an individual unit.

To Magnus:
So it would be no problem to see buttons, knapsacks, laces and lapels etc. AND to move your great 3D-units.

BUT...gentlemen... this is only MY taste

Uffz this that are you talking about is HnM vol. 1 also easy as in HPS. You can do this by your own, the only problem is to find anyone who would like to "modding" HnM
In editor is also option:

To Uffz

Yes, here is one example of the 3D units I use for HnM, rendered in a larger scale. Here you can see most details like the knapsack, water bottle, buttons on the gaiters and on cuffs, Pom Pom and Side Bobs :)

To Magnus:

Indeed a great possibility to create many unit portrait. When I am owner of this game, I will do my very best to create a lot of (scanned and reversed) pics.
Do we know, how many units per side we can use on a battlefield with this gameengine? 1:1 ??

To Magnus:

Sjysst .....is it "handmade"?

Greetings to both

Andi

New engine version :
To Prinz Heinrich or Tim Coackley :
will H&M volume 1 and H&M volume 2 have the same engine ( the same .exe ) ? When H&m volume 1 will be updated later, will it have the ability to use 5 command levels (even if it uses only 3 command levels in all its scenarios) ?
