We are all familiar with the way units gain experience between battles in a campaign. But, aren't destroyed units supposed to revert to the basic national values once they have been completely destroyed and rebuilt? I am talking about infantry squads wiped out and returning to the war in 90+ condition (russians, 1941), and also replaced tanks that had some or all of the crew killed. Nice though it is to have top notch people fighting on your side, it kinda detracts from the experience that they have been raised from the dead!

I'm using 7.1, playing the russian steel campaign. I don't remember seeing this in earlier versions.

I always thought they did. You would think that the replacement pool in 1941 for Ivan wouldn't have such high quality personnel. Weren't they scraping up anything they could? I know the Siberians they brought West were supposed to be crack troops but the 90's does seem way too high. Were these guys wearing fur caps by any chance? lol.

I've lost an experience 94 PzIII crew in my NA campaign, and they came back as experience 76 with a new leader. Am I nuts or is it still working properly?

It is possible. Sucks, but possible. It depends on the nationality and time frame for replacements. Maybe those guys graduated at the bottom of their Panzer class.

I remember seeing a table somewhere that had experience and morale values listed by nationality and indexed by year.. IIRC it was for SP1, but since SPWAW is a direct descendant of that (in a long round about way, I know the engine is from SP3), those values may have migrated along with them. I'll look this weekend and see if I can find it .

I had the same problem mentioned at the beginning here...
Killed crew are replaced with high numbers..sometimes also more
than what owned by the original crews..(really surprised by that )
I am playing From Utah to Rhine campaign ..but that is not the only thing...I wrote a topic here about such oddities..

and I agree ..that was not possible on previous versions...

who can say ?
anyway the campaign is GREAT !

Gallo Rojo also posted some concerns about the gradual morale creep effect....in campaign games, one's forces have a tendency to reincarnate as veteran and elite once they achieve that status the hard way.....

I do not recall my non-veteran or non-elite units coming back with higher ratings (on those few occasions when I looked)...

But I have noticed for awhile that once units made it to vet/elite status they seemed to stay there despite repeated destruction...

I rationalized it as follows: if even one experienced soldier in a squad (or tank crew) escapes, he represents a cadre of priceless experience to the new recruits, and can elevate their effectiveness far above the normal training depot levels...

There are some assumptions in this:

1) The escaped crew or squad member was an effective leader and soldier and has skill in training others

2) The newly integrated squad has some time to acclimatize and the "teacher" can pass on his lessons (generally a rarity during campaigns where the replacements often got killed within the first 24-48 hours of exposure to the front...

3) The escapee was not wounded or otherwise made ineffective for further combat - once again, unlikley in real life...

So, I tend to agree that the ability of veteran and elite units to reincarnate at high exp/morale levels is unrealistic...

Unfortuantely, what is to be done about it? SPWAW is no longer in development and all efforts are spent on CL...no?

I would prefer not to see further modifications of SPWAW because I have balanced multiple scenarios based on the current approach....

Cheers,

B

Just tested going from one battle to the next in v6, and got zombies there too (90+). This does not appear to be a new problem therefore.
