Well a very good turn for me

My Armour Captured Charter Towers ejecting the Japanese

It cost me a lot as my bombers went in unescorted but then this whole campaign has cost me.

In other news my invasion force heading for the line islands did its job albeit I am worried about the lack of damage to the AF

I am worried about what I should do next.

I have a force of at least 2 japanese Divs trapped at Townsville and a horde of SBD's and TBM's ready to come in to deal with transports as they arrive to evac.

Effectively he will need to risk KB to pull out the troops and with Charter Towers in my hands thats a difficult operation.

PZB is not happy we both think we should have redone the turn where he misunderstood strat movement rather than giving him a 5 day head start before I followed up but thats with 20:20 hindsight of how important a relativelly unimportant screwup was at the time

Being honest it never occured to me to offer and had he asked I would have said yes as it was an insignificant turn. (Neither of us realsised it would be as significant as it has turned out to be0

However now I have lost a lot of aircraft including months production of P38's Beaufighters and irreplaceable bombers not to mention pilots and limited devices to get where I am and the payoff is a trapped force that he will have to pay to evac.

Not sure what to do PZB has not asked me for anything and knowing him I doubt he will ask for any favours so its on me to offer something if I am willing and I am not sure if I am or not.

It was a genuine mistake of that I am sure but would he really have went straight for an evac ?? - everything in my gut tells me he was planning on a delaying action somewhere until he saw how fast my Armour was moving inland and that I wasnt going to be deterred by air power but thats conjecture as I was trying to decieve deliberately holding my armour back to slow speed.

I have lost lots of P38's Beaufighters and valuable bombers to get this far but I dont want an honourable opponent feeling screwed either - not sure what to do.

need to think about it

The error re strat move has really left a sour taste on what has otherwise been the first victorious allied campaign.

Going to sleep on it before I do anything

I wouldn't suggest any roll-backs or do-overs. First, stuff happens -- to him, to you. You both agreed (and you didn't have to) a remedy at the time and now it is much later. Second, he now knows the extent of your commitment to that offensive, how fast your armour can move, etc. That's a genie you can't put back in the bottle. Just attribute the whole thing to the Japanese being at the far-reach of their C&C, logistics and comm lines. He was the one who tried to strat move 50,000 troops in one day out of a hex that was about to be under attack. Consider it logistic/comm/C&C overloand and play on. But making unsolicited roll-back offers is being a bit too generous.

Sh!t happens. He'll learn from it, you'll learn from it. Going back and erasing every mistake one makes isn't the way to learn.

He made a mistake, he's paying for it. That's the nature of the game.

I too vote for not offering anything unsolicited to your opponent. He is an experienced opponent who chose to expand in Australia.

If you allow him to escape this time then what happens the next time he makes a poor choice - another get out of gaol card to rescue him from poor play again? With hindsight I bet there are choices you made previously which you came to regret. Were you the receipient of such generosity? The magnitude of the error is an irrelevant consideration.

Think about this point. You are voluntarily restricting your Burma offensive due to historical reasons (in as much how they impact upon logistics) even though the game engine would allow you to proceed with the initial plan. On what basis do you think that there was the rolling stock available in northern Queensland to move 50000 enemy troops plus all of their equipment in a matter of days.

I agree with this entirely. What are the chances of there even being this amount of rail stock available to Australia, let alone to Japan in the midst of an invasion of far-away enemy territory? It was a gamey attempt and it failed -- so why should he be rewarded?

If I understand this correctly: Starting a strat move with the enemy that close is not a move I would make playing against the AI unless I was willing to have my troops caught boarding trains rather than in combat posture. If there was a covering force, it seems to have been insufficient.

Plus he can airlift some fragments out and rebuild these units. He has a pretty good lead in this game and choose to go for the gut in OZ. Call it "victory disease". Now it is payback time.

Andy;

He's invading NZ against me and this latest turn didn't go so well as far as game dynamics goes: KB did not launch against 2 SCTFs I had within range, and one of the SCTFs managed to bypass guardian SCTFs and hit his invasion forces.

I don't know if the double-whammy has exentuated his 'disappointment'.

Sorry but I wont endevour to stuff up the defence of my homeland to calm him down

Hi Khyber - no actually. Pardon my ignorance, is there something in there about such stuff?

Andy, hmm maybe... it will be exciting. I have no idea how much he's bought as far as ground pounders go, although enough that he's invaded both North and South at the same time. And he has enough naval metal in the cook strait to affect compasses in Wellington!

My opponent has invaded New Zealand and the goodies didnt arrive (about 3 1/2 divisions in Aden and more devices) that were supposed to show. The next patch is supposed to fix this. Our game has slowed considerably while waiting for the patch. Nelson has only invaded the North Island in our game. I bugged out of Grinsberg (SP?) before I could get an accurate count on what he has brought but at least a division plus support. Prior to the invasion a rampaging KB picked off a few convoys bringing troops from the West Coast to the area so things are slim on the ground.

I am told that it does, but I am playing several PBEMs now as well as the foe that has invaded NZ so I dont want to upgrade until the official patch is out. If you dont get any takers for Downfall, let me know and I will add one more game to the mix.

Owwwacccch

Interested in your approach here. Looks like only one phase of unloading?

I always try to get up to 1 hex away from landing zone so that I get two turns of unloading when going against an atoll.

How badly placed affected are the marines? It looks brutal.

I blew it after three days on the shore both Regts and the combat engineers are screwed

Disruption is high and not recovering

Despite 9 BB's on bombardment I messed up.

I am going to start reloading and bug out my Marines cannot get the job done

OK now for the PIR

What went wrong with the invasion

Air - nothing 6 Carriers worth of air support - did their job
Naval - nothing totally un interrupted invasion

Ground

1. I made a mistake and picked up the wrong Marine Regt so one was 100% prepped the other totally unprepped - the difference after day 1 was startling.
2. I broke the cardinal rule of attacks TAKE DIVISIONS - do NOT attack with regiments.....
3. No armour so much of my armour is in Australia that I didnt have a Tank Bn to reinoforce the attack with - BIG Mistake !!!

I am now orderign an evac better late than never

Bombing has restarted in Burma - losing 20 ish Blenheims in one day reconfirms why the Blenheim is NOT a front line aircraft !!!

Slowly getting better but its slow going

KB as expected in en route to line islands a 30 sub wolfpack awaits them...

I will now begin to reassemble and briefly rest my Armoured Corps at Cloncurry the CMF Divs can clean up the rest of Australia

The rest of my AIF Divs in Australia will move to Brisbane to rest and refit (3rd and 8th Aus Div)

The US Corps will move to Sydney to rest and refit

This reorg will take a couple of weeks to achieve

I think my forces will successfully break contact before KB is in range as such the forces will also need to rest and refit. I will need to recall several forward deployed Regts to allow Divs to rebuild exactly how that will work will take a few days to work out.

The main theatre of activity for the next few weeks will be Burma where my offensive is in full flow

Finishing off my assault on Austrlia

One word of caution for allied players.

Guard your bombers like GOLD DUST especially the British ones

The replacement rates throughout 43 are still terrible

I get

(i) 6 Wellingtons of various marks
(ii) 4 Hudson IIIa's
(iii) 8 x Belnheim VD's
(iv) 2 - 4 Liberators of various marks

I am so screwed.....

Most of the few sqns that arrive do so under strength.

I am so dependent on USAAF B17's in India to achieve anything.

A 20 Blenheim loss day is a disaster !!!
