Alright, I'm out of my lurking again to restate an idea I already stated in the master wishlist. It seems though that ideas dumped there are mostly lost to possible discussion. It might be more prudent to create a subforum for ideas discussion. That way, the moderators, developers and community members would have easier access to the good/strange/impossible thoughts that float around. And, by the way, good job on the patch and mods!!! Waiting for more...

* Any spy on a foreign mission should generally take the nearest freighter/D-ship to a planet, and from there route using real ships and waypoints to intended target. James Bond takes American Airlines sometimes, not only private super-jet infiltrators.

I'll second this. The wishlist thread is great, but its also become something of a monster. Digging through it to find the ideas is bound to be tedious at this point.

I like the diplo ship idea. They would add variety to the civilian ships you see flying around and make for interesting situations. Such as, "Our diplomatic envoy has been captured/destroyed!" Wars could get more interesting with this, I think.

Trade route system were I can influence who my freighter fleet will trade with.

An embassy system where with money I can setup an embassy in an enemy system and get intel about that empire and system or increase the spying ability versus that empire.


I would also like to see something like a general Intel mission, where I can get the empire screen of the enemy empire.  Stuff that tells me their tech level, the number of military ships they have.  Also stuff like "Steal design of enemy ship (escort, frigate, etc) and getting back the design of the ship would also be cool.   Having an Intel mission of "Steal enemy ship" could be cool too.

Would have to be easy to automate as well, otherwise micro management becomes a hell

Well, I don't know if I'm the only one noticing this, but, game graphics need an improvement. We are in 2010, not 1990. I would say improve graphics/ships/zoom/weapons hell, even I'd like to actually see how my planets looks like! The game is good, but it would kick MOO2/SoaSE/GalCiv asses if it could stand side-by-side "graphicwise"
Just my insight.

You're right, graphically, this game is very, well light... But, well, too much to change, not enough people working on it... Maybe for Distant Worlds 2 ?..

Graphically the biggest problem for me is the lack of ships for each race   DW does have a retro look, the graphics in Soase especially if you use the popular weapon effects mod are stunning, GC2 however, I don't think are any better than DW. 

GC2 systems were too small, the 3d planets looked no nicer than the DW ones and ships were bigger than planets.  3D ships are nice, but limit the amount of modding.  I think the best example of how DW could look better would be to take a Gratuitous Space Battles approach more than a GC2 or Soase one.

LOL, very funny WoodMan, seriously. Nexus2 would have been the very best game at least graphically, because considering that engine was from 2005, I couldn't imagine what could it be like in 2010. But sadly, DW has so depth and it's so big that it would be practically impossible to give the game a true 3D engine due PC limitations. I still have a suggestion for a possible DW2 3D engine. Look at The Sims 3 game. It renders only the portion you're currently playing on and if you zoom into another part of the city/town, it renders specifically that part of town on the fly without any loading screens. Same goes for Dungeon Siege, no loading screens, still in 3D, same process.

hehe, I'd never seen or heard of Nexus2 until yesterday  Yeah it's a joke, but I was serious about Gratuitous Space Battles.  It's 2D like Distant Worlds, but the effects from weapons/engines etc are much nice, also it has fighters wizzing around.  If Eliott does in the future make a DW2, he can't go wrong taking a look at that game, but of course he already will have
