Good morning tithe....

Good morning sirs. Off to 'work' now. Steve-did you get the turn I sent late last night OK?

Yes I did. I'll have it back to you by the time you get home. Can't face a beating from you just yet, need more coffee.

Beatings go better with a hot mug of coffee!

Well, my invincibility is overrated, I'll tell you that.

In another PBEM, I sent BB Kirishima, CA Maya, 3 CLs and a handful of DDs on a punitive expedition to inderdict what I thought was an amphibious force unloading on some god-forsaken island (are there any that aren't?) in the New Hebrides south of Efate.

Sent them on the wrong routing via the West, should have had them go around to the East of the New Hebrides.

LBA from Noumea found them at maximum range, sans air cover. Ugly. BB Kirishima on fire with heavy damage, 2 CLs and a DD sunk.

I hate having my own stupidity pointed out to me so repeatedly. It raises havoc with my cognitive dissonance. I can only make up so many externalities for my own hackneyed gameplay before I've got to admit how much I suck at this game.

if you want truely mindless carnage, i'd suggest Painkiller.

depends......shooters like the Bioshock Series, System Shock 1/2, Halflife etc have some serious immersion effects that make them as much RPG's as shooters. Painkiller was a pure shooter. Almost no plot to speak of.....not much in the way of puzzles (if any IIRC). Just wide open maps suited to mass killing not seen since the days of Serious Sam and the original Doom.

Just mow the baddies down, en masse.....

Three more days tithe...

I've already issued a notification of warning to my coworkers: on Friday afternoon at 2.30PM, they'd better stay well clear of me, because I'll be leaving with such speed and kinetic energy that I won't even notice if I smash into any of them...

Good night, y'all

I'm not much for shooters. My "mindless" breaks from Mistress AE include Medieval Total War, the original Railroad Tycoon, and the multi-player online Ogame. The last is a great way to kill time between AE turns.

Hmmm, not much carnage in my list, except MTW.

P.S. My son plays several of the xbox games online, like Halo and one of the newer Battlefields. I think they look like fun, but they just don't hold my interest long enough to learn how to actually use the controllers.

Was at a used bookstore and found both The Centurians and The Praetorians by Jean Larteguy. Hadn't read these in, gosh, 30 years.

Anybody else out there remember these?

No but it looked very interesting when I googled it.

Yeah, I googled it too now you mention it. Seems that it resonates all the way up to today. Woof !

Always had a kind of love/hate relationship with the French military. As an American, the negative parts are easy to understand, but after reading Larteguy, something seemed to happen in my young mind. Recognizing it now, after many years, it was a certain insouciance and concept of honor that was characteristically French. Didn’t register then, just put the worm into the brain.

Was up till 0300 finishing Les Centurions. A lot of bits and pieces of old attitudes are falling into their proper place, quite nicely now.

Can’t recommend these books highly enough.
