Had a 7.2 here back in April. The aftershocks will keep you on edge for at least a couple of months. That was our experience here in Imperial Valley CA.

I feel for you, but little help that gives you. I will keep you in my prayers.

A mate of mine up here in Napier claims that in our earthquake, 7.2 was merely an aftershock. He says you guys need to harden up.

i live on the east coast of the united states. i was getting ready to sleep at around 5:00 am eastern time (really late) when all of a sudden i felt this tremor in the ground. there was a passive vibrating and i could feel it through my bed. i could have sworn i heard some faint rumbling. the house alarm beeped a few times afterward. what is going on?

It's just the spam giving you gas.

After living through hundereds of them in my life, I'm finding it's not the magnitude as much as it is the duration and type of motion that really alarms me. If they go on for too long, you begin to panic and wonder if they are going to get worse before getting better. Also, ones that involve a lot of slow swaying that builds over time really have me diving for cover.

As I approach retirement and strive to have a house free and clear of mortgages, the one thing remaining that can wipe me oout completely is a massive earthquake. When my house is closer to being paid off, I'm getting insurance, despite the outrageous cost of it.

If memory serves we have had over 3000 aftershocks from the original 7.2. Ain't they fun?

I am really sorry, they are truly disconcerting.
