So get a canary.Or a parakeet. Me, I want a big honking macaw that I can teach to say "here kitty-kitty" to my wifes cat! Teach that little beasty some religion!

Trust me, Steve. You DON'T want a Macaw. Please, trust me.

In college I worked in pet stores, and I've been around tropical birds pretty much all my life, so yeah I understand the problems with Macaws (and their ability for wholesale destruction). If I had one, it would be after total retirement, in Florida, with a semi-outdoor aviary. It's the African Grays I can't handle. Those bloody things scream worse than a banshee! (Either the jet or irish kind!).

But you must admit that there is something neat about a bird that can call and terrify a cat!

We had a moluccan cockatoo for years that had no fear of our cats whatsoever. Or our dog. The cockatoo would intentionally bait them to come close to his cage when he was outside of it. When the dog (in particular) ambled over to lick up some seeds or goodies that the bird baited it with, the bird would flare his wings, extend his crest and shriek from above. Nine times out of ten it scared the **** out of the dog. The cockatoo would also bait or 'ambush' our cats, in the same vein.

Not a lot of survival instincts in that bird...

Maybe. My Mom had a pekingnes with the same attitude. Till the day she took on an St. Bernard with a urinary problem!

I had in mind a military mawcaw. Six fooot wing span and a beak like an electric can opener. But I think a lot of the tropical birds seem to use agression as a defense. I had a cockatiel (basically a parakeet on steroids) that used to beat up my Samoyed! And even ride her on occassion.

Birds are cool. Especially the ones that taste like chicken! Did I tell anyone that I have a new shotgun?

Tasty little beasts! I also love turkeys!
Damn, I'm getting hungry...

Atta boy...support the industry.

Begging your pardon, I think that theres something inherently wrong about a "species" that cant procreate by itself.

Oh? Such as many members of the human race? English Bulldogs? Most dairy cattle? Most swine sows?

Look at the bright side. There's no danger in commercial broad breasted turkeys escaping into nature and fertilizing the local 'wild turkey' population. They're an evolutionary dead end. A very tasty one too.

I'm enjoying some right now on my lunch sandwich.

Dont get me started on dogs. Quite a few species are a poke in Darwin's eye. Dont know much about swine, but if I understand correctly, I think most bovine can still "hold their own" as it were.

Those are kind of understood to be sterile. Its not that they physically cant match the plus to the minus.

I remember hearing somewhere that in some parts of Germany pigeon is a delicacy. Any truth to that?

Squab (young pigeon) is a delicacy in many parts of the world. [opinion on] They're all nuts there, because pigeons / squabs are nasty [opinion off].

We called 'em "yardbird" in the USN and always greeted chicken served in the galley with cries of, "yardbird tonight!"

Clapton fans?

Not bad, Yuri. I'd have expected you to be too young to pull that one off.

No, you probably aren't aware of the differences in dairy versus other bovidae from a production / reproduction standpoint.

A long story, but suffice to say that free love is not a part of the bovine production world any longer. Shorthorns, longhorns and polled herefords=you will be killed if you try to milk 'em. You will also lose your business-these breeds are not developed as milkers. Gurnseys, Holsteins make poor steaks, nummy milk. The latter are almost exclusively artificial insemination, the former much more rustic reproduction methods. Viva la differance!

If we start heading down the Darwinian selection path, then you've got to be willing to wave away a good chunk of the human population and many species as we know them today. I ain't going there.

we call pigeons "winged rats"...

And chickenboy is right. This one turkey race is disgusting! I often eat turkeys that are fed at local farms where they ran around in the fields!

not really. It was noted that we won our first game last season too though this time around we do seem to be more on the game. Next week will be the acid test. I was more suprised that Indy lost it's first. (I wouldn't mind seeing Manning get a 2nd ring.)

Pitbull must have been suprised though....she did at least 27 victory laps around the pub last night with the tennis ball.

What about those gray uniforms? Is that supposed to fit the Seattle climate?

I like rain and I like coffee so maybe Seattle's for me.

The drought continues here in Virginia and they tell us we will have to start drinking our own urine pretty soon.

Do you also like fleas, grunge music, smelly hippies and active volcanoes? Maybe Seattle *is* the place for you then.

Would it help if others sent THEIR urine to you for drinking? I'd donate my urine for Virginians' well-being. Shall I organize a urine drive here? At some of these Big-10 college games, I'd bet that we could collect several swimming pools' worth for you. Let us know how we can help.

If you also like football teams that are 1-0 vs. 0-1 (like say, the Minnesota Vikings), then Seattle is the place for you.

Hi Carl, I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the "stock" scenarios, so I don't know, but check in the Scen Design forum.
