Anyway, I'm reading Casino Royale on my phone. It's peculiar to compare this book, written in 1953, with the Daniel Craig film...

As far as Bond films keeping true to their written heritage, I thought Craig's Casino Royale was pretty close to the book. Much more so than, for example, "View to a Kill", which was a short story about a crossbow assassination that Bond performed, shooting some schmuck on the diving board of his pool. The movie was a completely different animal in that case.

If only the twilight saga would deviate to that extent from the books. Maybe into a film about vampires that didn't get made

The UK has always begrudged every penny spent on the armed forces and then wonders why we lose the opening rounds of every war. 'Twas ever thus.

Excepting for when you guys had a pretty well endowed military, won the opening rounds and then got pummeled at the end.

A spambot is trying to sell us an "Inflatable Haunted House" on the General Discussion forum this morning...

Onime? Why is he involved in such retail endeavors?

You see "spambot" and you think of me? This cant be good.

Awww...chin up, buttercup. It's a term of endearment for your proclivity towards 'blasting', nothing more.

Only because the French helped you.

Of course in the next round we fought you and Napoleon at the same time.

It IS pretty close. However, it's fun to read all the little details, and then think about how the movie differed.

WE perfer to think that the French had help from US!

Kind of ironic (and fortuitous for us) that the French had their one major naval victory over the RN in support of Yorktown.

You know how sometimes you can just tell your opponent in an online game is about 12 years old   I just played a Blood Bowl match online and despite the fact he was winning all I got from him (with plenty of spelling mistakes and text speak) was:
wow, ur such a cheater!
You keep rolling 6s.
You finally missed a block, after 12 attempts.
Another 6!  You're definately cheating.

Then he rage-quit after I tackled his player with the ball despite the fact he was still winning   I don't think he appreciated the comment when I told him I'd hacked the game so he'd only roll 1s.  Sometimes I despair for the youth of today, then I realise that I just don't care about them.  The youth of tomorrow had better not be such whiners though

That's why this game and its community is something special...

Was that the one where you regained control of your former colony? Oh, wait-that never happened, did it? Don't you guys know when to call it quits?

I'll stand behind Fort McHenry in that one.

(I don't know what was going on with Washington DC's defense that day. They played horribly! )

We also traded Hannah Montanna, Paris Hilton, grits and chocolate covered bacon.

I'd rather have a decent Madras washed down with a strong mug of tea than unidentified animal between two bits of soggy bread with brown lettuce and thousand island dressing that's been left in the sun and a bucket of brown carbonated sugar water.

Oh no, you definately lost that one. You were already in India. But you learned from the experince with us not to push your colonies too much. So Canada and Austrialia never revolted (unlike India and South Africa).

And about English food. I like it. It's the adventurer in me. Despite many years of eating many different governments food, it is only in England (at college) that in the words of one of our lecturers , "For the 1st time in my life I really don't know what I'm eating. I can't even guess".

English food isn't really English though. We stole all the best meals from around the world, threw away the good bits and made our food from what was left

I like British food, which is handy 'cos I live here.

Yes, and you still work for us, you give us money, fight our wars and come to see our Queen. And you speak our language, no matter how hard you try and disguise it with disproportionate usage of the letter 'z'. Not really broken the umbilical have you?

The UK has always begrudged every penny spent on the armed forces and then wonders why we lose the opening rounds of every war. 'Twas ever thus.

Excepting for when you guys had a pretty well endowed military, won the opening rounds and then got pummeled at the end.

Judging by how that colony developed, I'm not so sure we actually lost that one We went somewhere alse and got tea and curry

Trading Coca-cola and hamburgers for tea and curry? If you say so, sir. I think that smacks of sour grapes tho'

EDIT: We also don't all pretend to be Irish once a year

My last word on this: Fergie. In the nude. Thank God for the Revolution!

I've got plenty more words. If they're to do with that last post then they're mostly

I suspect that your talking about different Fergies. CB is talking about ours. Dixie, are you talking about yours?
