OK. I'll bite. As suggested here, I'm checking to see if anyone has any idea on what do to with a problem getting WITP-AE to play. I am running Windows 7 32-bit and have installed the game from disk to the C:\games\War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition folder. After running the install, I used the updater to pull down the 1.01.06g patch and installed it. After that, I ran the game menu executable (as Administrator) and I got a game loading screen with a progress bar that started at about 10% and above it a "Fatal Error 1073741819" message. Clicking OK takes me back out to the game menu screen and nothing else happens.

I have tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling from CD, rebooted my computer, reinstalled the patch - all of which bring up the same fatal error message.

I have read a thread with fatal error codes and what to do for them, but I do not find my error code listed. I have tried for three days to get a response from Matrix tech support for what to try next to get the game to play, but no contact so far. Does anyone in the game community have any ideas as to what may be going on here? I'm attaching a screen shot of the error to show where it is taking place in case that is of any help. Your comments would be appreciated.

To help us help you with this issue - I would suggest doing a reinstall and PAUSING after the initial install. Bring up the initially installed game without any patches and tell us whether that works. We can then proceed based on that result.

I don't recall seeing this issue.

I've done some additional messing around and want to get the results in this thread in case it ever helps someone else who has the same problem.

Reinstalling and pausing still resulted in the same error. I experimented with running Windows 7's XP Mode Virtual Machine and installing it there to run in a truly XP based environment but it came up with an error about being unable to set the screen mode. So I did some playing with the executables in the game directory. Changing settings on the autorun file for the game menu program did nothing. But when I got to the actual War in the Pacfic.exe file and set it to run in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, that appeared to do the trick and made the progress bar bypass the fatal error and proceed into loading the game. So, if this error occurs for anyone else, it appears that setting compatibility mode on the actual game executable - not just the shortcut that gets placed on the desktop - is what takes care of this problem in a Windows 7 environment.

What directory did you install AE into? I had problems with my Win 7 system when installed into the "Program Files" directory.

I had read of people having problems installing into the Program Files directory, so I installed to Matrix Games\War in the Pacific.

My games installed by default into c:/matrixgames/witp/ and still had the fatal error. I did the Win Xp SP3 compatibility mode and that fixed it. thanks for the heads up.
