This was hanging on the wall of the restaraunt we ate at. Reflection from the glass its under etc makes for crummy picture but its very impressive. USS Constitution vs HMS Java best as I can tell. Just to be a wiseguy I asked the waitress if its for sale. She said not to her knowledge but the owner had bought it about 8-9 years ago from the artist for $3500. I stopped asking questions at that point.

That's the advantage of aging, Onime. You forget what you think you knew. Once forgotten, you pine for it less. Or that's the theory anyways. I don't know how this works in real life. You should PM Steve...

Let me know how that theory of yours works out.

Unless one could see the name of the ship on the stern, it would be almost impossible to tell Java and Guerriere apart from a painting.

Title of the Day: The Golden Serpent. (1967) Written by Manning Lee Stokes. Somebody is flooding the US economy with counterfeit $5's. Everything points to South of the Border. Take a Mexican Political Party that demands the return of Texas. Add a Chinese paper exporting operation. Stir in a Countess who made a fortune in cosmetics. And Mix in the CIA and AXE.

The French. No one else really gained anything from the US and the UK beating the snot out of each other.

I think the artist made it intentionally hard to read. The boats on the rear davits are placed just so to make it even harder. The name of the Brit is completely illegible. But after staring at it for a good 5 minutes I came to the conclusion that the Yankee is either Constitution or Chesapeake. By the length of the name, I am leaning towards Constitution.

Edited for stupidity: Sorry, I completely misread your question. The reason I think its Java is because the Brit's name is rather short. But the next time I go there I'll see if I can make it out better.

Edit again: http://www.greatmodernpictures.com/mdwc1.htm

Now I'm thinking she was yanking my chain about the price.

Probably. You must look rich.

If the name is short, Java makes the most sense. Plus, the skies look rather tropical and the Guerriere was fought in the northern hemisphere.

Eh the Bears got lucky, Hester's TD return shoulda been called back, if you watch the replay there was a clear block in the back.

Can't wait for the rematch when Rodgers will smoke them... Not like the Bears can count on 100+ penalty yards ever happening again...

Bad times   My aunt went for some tests after feeling unwell, the doctors sent her to the hospital for more tests and she went home.  Then they called her on Sunday night and told her she had to get there ASAP.  Turns out she's got terminal cancer and probably has weeks at best

I've had nothing but good average experiences there. Some good times and tomfoolery, but mostly it's another foreign place where I went to spend a night. Not as good as Crete, Calgary or Washington DC. Probably better than Bangor (MA, not NW). Steer clear of the dodgy taxis (some of them) and strip clubs (all of them) and the chances of getting into trouble are reduced.

Recife on the other hand, was scary at night. Plus Cyprus would seem pretty good when my other destination was a mountain based desert airfield with angry men putting on occasional fireworks displays.
