Hello,

With all this great Art, is anyone collecting them all and going to put in one zip for all to use?

This is the longest thread, and to go find every attachment is painful.

The great work will be appreciated even more if this can be done.

Or have I missed that in one of the replies?

As I stated in the post on the previous page, these are all works in progress so we can't publish a complete collection as more and more goodies keep getting added.

You really wouldn't want to wait until we are finished so we are releasing what we have in dribs and drabs just so you will have something to play with in the meantime.

Just blame the AE team, there is just soooo much artwork that needs to be done.

However we are trying to make it a bit easier for you by publishing indexes and consolidated collections every so often. Just keep looking and eventually the definitive collection will be posted somewhere.

To keep you interested, here are some more that will be coming to a (Pacific) Theatre near you soon.......

(By the way, there is a little of Cathartes' inspiration in all of these artworks, even if he doesn't recognise them )

Question Re Gloss Blue Colour Schemes - 9/24/2010 11:07:47 AM

With regards to the aircraft artwork in the post above, I have noticed that there a quite a few references that show the Royal Navy -0- insignia on the camo rather than the USN Gloss Blue aircraft colour scheme. I assume this is the result of the -0- insignia being applied to older aircraft and the newer aircraft arriving with the Gloss Blue scheme already applied. In game terms I will leave the older models with a camo scheme and leave the newer models with the default Gloss Blue artwork.

Does that work with you guys???

At what date did the -0- insignia become reasonably widespread?? I have used an arbitrary date of 01Jan45 for the changeover as I have references to Jan'45 but not any earlier.

For the USN, I have a reference to the Gloss Blue scheme being authorised for all carrier aircraft in Jun'44 but as with the RN, the existing aircraft were not repainted and only the newly delivered replacement aircraft sported the new scheme. However, though the fighters seemed to change over pretty quickly, from the pictures I have seen, it looks like most of the bombers soldiered on with the Three Tone Blue scheme until the post war era.

In game terms I think I will leave the bombers in the Three Tone scheme and the later fighters already have Gloss Blue as their default. The question is one for the early fighters that might still be around in mid'44.

Should I have a final Gloss Blue image for the F4F-4, F6F-3, F4U-1A or the FM-1?? Any opinions are gratefully accepted.

In the absence of any comments to the post above I am ploughing ahead...

Set 004 Version 2: Complete WITP-AE set Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm aircraft updating to the C1 then Blue/White roundels in Aug'43. It now includes the 1945 -O- insignia along with the matching rotating top art....
This download superscedes the previous Rotating Aircraft Art Set004.

Please note that I am only repackaging this artwork to the rotating art format. The artistic credit is fully due to Cathartes (though there are a few modified ones in the mix)!!

The index to the rest of the Aircraft Rotating Art is here....

===================================
Installation instructions:

To make things easy, just unzip this distribution into your AE game folder (after making sure the "use folders" option is set. The zip file includes the Art directory.

To verify correct installation, just load the Andy Mac's Buccaneer scenario. As this is set in Oct'43, the FAA aircraft sideart should have updated to the Blue/White roundels. Load the Downfall scenario and the -0- insignia should be use.

===================================

Download here...

Hi Everyone,

Set005 Version 2: RAF A to L, part 1 of 3

The next mini-update for your downloading pleasure. This download is the rotating artwork for the RAF consisting of aircraft with names from A to H. (Part 1 of 2 - we need a forum with a bigger upload limit......)

This download superscedes the previous Rotating Aircraft Art Set005.

This includes Beaufighters, Beaufort, Blenheims, Catalina, Buffalo, Hudson, Hurricane etc.... and is a reformat of Cathartes' inspirational artworks, even if he doesn't recognise all of them.

There isn't much in the way of new new sideart but I have included the rotating top art for all aircraft. Patrol and transport aircraft artwork doesn't show up in the combat animations but it is visible in the encyclopedia.

The index to the rest of the Aircraft Rotating Art is here....

Part 1 of 3: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=2585203
Part 2 of 3: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=2585206
Part 3 of 3: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=2670593

Installation instructions:

To make things easy, just unzip this distribution into your AE game folder (after making sure the "use folders" option is set). The zip file includes the Art directory.

To verify correct installation, just load the Andy Mac's Downfall scenario. As this is set in 1945, the RAF aircraft side art and top art in the encyclopedia should have updated to the SEAC Light Blue/Dark Blue roundels.

A new update for the Royal Navy, this time most of the CM (except for the Kung Wo) and the ships that arrive in theatre as DE (those that upgrade from DD to DE are either already available, or will be included in a DD pack).

Guys, I know everyone would like to see a bit more USN, we're already down to the miscellaneous ships for some other navies while there are still USN CVs without badges, but the USN badges either don't exist or are hard to find. If you know any good sources, feel free to send me that way.

Would a book about the subject help? If so, do a search for the author James G. Thompson.

Thanks for the hint, but I fear it won't help too much. I think you're referring to "Complete guide to USN Medals, Badges and Insignia ...". However Amazon lets you take a look at some pages and the table of contents show that there are at most 4 pages on ship identification badges (if it's not some other kind of identification badge), so it's won't have many examples that could be used for the game.
