I'm enjoying the Rangers once a decade playoff appearance. A friend got tickets for the game on Saturday.

Well, you've earned your three game season extension, but I don't think the Rays are letting you get past them. As a long-time Oakland A's fan, I couldn't help but be puzzled about Texas' season. Ordinarily, the Rangers can be relied upon for an August-September swoon / implosion. Not this year. Congrats.

By the way, is the team still for sale / bankrupt?

Nope, the sale was completed to a group led by Chuck Greenburg and Nolan Ryan. The prince of darkness now only owns the Stars and co-owns Liverpool.

Oh dear...what poor, bloody lot got relegated and let Stoke City and Wigan into the Premiership?

Over the years, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, West Ham, West Brom, Wolves, Blackburn, Swindon (anyone else remember them being in the Premier League?), Wimbledon, Portsmouth...

Having hopes for my favourite team since 35 years back. QPR looking good ...

I like my (at best) mediocre Lincoln City. No danger of finishing in the top half, let alone the top division any time soon Their best league performance was in the third division waaay back when Graham Taylor managed them after retiring through injury.

If your best ever period in 125 years of existence is a single season in the third (of four) professional divisions then that's a record to be proud of

That's quite the record, why screw it up in a burst of competance?

I know, we came close when Keith Alexander managed the team. 5 seasons in a row we reached the playoffs without promotion. It's a record! Also we were the first team to ever be relegated to the conference (non-league). And iirc the first to be promoted from it the next season.

I don't support Lincoln because they're good, but because they're my local team from when I was growing up.

Sounds like the Cleveland Browns or Pittsburgh Pirates of your league, Dixie.

Back from a 26 mile bike ride.

Now some visual entertainment.

The Red Guard and The Filthy Five, both written by Manning Lee Stokes. Both were published in the US in 1967 and in UK 1967 for The Red Guard and 1972 for The Filthy Five.

The Red Guard: Chinese rebel Fan Su turns up in San Francisco, asking for Nick Carter. She wants his help in setting up her Undertong, a rebel group seeking to overthrow the Chinese government. She reveals that her brother has reached a high post in the Red Guard. The CIA and AXE are not interested – they don’t see the Chinese government falling any time soon – but they do have a use for the organization. The Chinese are preparing to detonate an H-bomb near the Indian border – a bomb bigger than any built by the U.S. or Russia. The Chinese will then claim that they have an arsenal of such weapons, hoping to intimidate many third world nations. In exchange for a few million dollars worth of gold and equipment, He is to be transported to the bomb’s test site so that he can destroy it. Few things go right, but in the end, they reach the Valley of the Yeti. They destroy the bomb, but not before something kills Fan Su - possibly a yeti.

The Filthy Five: Three people are out to kill The President. The Chinese are paying $1 Billion to kill the President by inventing five super killers into one killing machine.

So how do you feel about Southern Rednecks who move west to join the treehuggers?

I used to have a 4WD Subaru wagon that had an NRA sticker on the rear window right next to the Grateful Dead sticker. That was sure to keep everyone confused...

you can't even begin to understand confusion until you've seen a rebel flag in the rear window of a pickup and a gay pride rainbow sticker on the same truck's rear bumper...

the hot topic over here in hippie land is whether or not the giants will travel to atlanta with their highest paid pitcher in history...you make a gazillion dollars a year and you can't make the 25 man roster in the first playoff game for the giants since 2003? wow...
