You can, of course, pay PP to replace MOST commanders. I think what you're looking for is a button, with Cyrillic writing on it, that says "take him out and shoot him". Alas, no such luck in this game.

Wow ... one of the things I liked about the Bond books was Smersh ... Smerts' shpionam (ñìåðòü øïèîíàì) ... oooh, wet work looks so cool when it's done in Cyrillic.

[Ed] stupid bloody keyboard won't do anything but stupid bloody English - smerts' k klaviaturam.

Skip the "k" and you'll be good. I did literally laugh out loud.

Onime,

Rioja...

My Basque wife definitely would approve, but she might be dissappointed in so few dead soldiers over such a long period of time!

There was pisco involved as well.

Additional observations:

1) I just noticed that there is a not a full strength Allied squadron anywhere on the map.
2) Wirraways are bombers now? OK. But that means that there are no fighters in Australia at all!
3) Where to Chinese units go when they withdraw? Pittsburgh?
4) Why dos it seem like so much more of an occasion when Dutch bombers actually hit something?

Yup. Your airframe pool blows. HA!

2) Wirraways are bombers now? OK. But that means that there are no fighters in Australia at all!

Yup. Not until mid-1942. HA!

3) Where to Chinese units go when they withdraw? Pittsburgh?

I think they go somewhere to get something to eat. This doesn't happen often, but it's really neat game modeling, isn't it?

4) Why dos it seem like so much more of an occasion when Dutch bombers actually hit something?

Because it's such a rareity. Don't worry, they get better...right about the time they're wiped off the board.

The correct answer is "....AND your airframe pool blows". Damned defense cuts. Democracy will be the death of us all.

2) Wirraways are bombers now? OK. But that means that there are no fighters in Australia at all!

Ugh. I guess it's all up to the 35 FG and their mighty *snicker* P-39s.

Aaaaagh! The Maya absolutely wrecked the Houston and Marblehead. It would have been a complete loss if Boise hadnt come up with her yardarm to yardarm and raked her superstructure. According to my calculations, with this rate of exchange I will need 147 CAs and 302 CLs to win the war.

Boise sank due to battle damage. I think I'll need to revise my calculations. All that loss was from a CA, Cl and 2 DDs.

Against the AI I tried to avoid fighting the IJN if they had anything more than a light cruiser whilst I tried to hold on to the DEI. The USN lack the experience, the RN lack the ships and the Dutch lack both...

Actually, that should really say I tried to avoid fighting the IJN if they had anything bigger than a patrol boat

If these encounters always go like this, then it certainly does make sense. I was working on the admittedly optimistic assumption that there was a change of me giving as good as I got.

With the ships that start in and around the SRA/PI, nope

There are a handful of decent ships for the Allies at the start, but things aren't too good.

The IJN have got good ships and good experience (esp at night).
The USN have got (mostly) outdated DDs and low experience (esp at night).
The RN have got outdated ships and good experience.

The Allied ships are generally outmatched by their IJN oppos, the only ones I've had any luck with vs the AI have been PoW, Boise and Mauritius. The issue is that Betty and her friend Nell will drop in for a visit and the few decent Allied ships are outnumbered by the baddies.

I've had some success with the RN carrying out hit and run missions around the DEI against the AI, not sure I'd get away with it vs a people... There's also the issue of decent ports, they're all either vulnerable to LBA or in Ceylon or Oz (or even further away...) so there's no way to really repair any damage.

Your fighters suck, so they can't protect the fleet either.

But at least the good guys win in the end.

A new week lurks threatningly in front of me... It's cold, it's dark, my boss is breaking records of pointy-hairedness left, right and centre, and I burned the roof of my mouth on a slice of pizza on friday, which is a constant source of low-grade discomfort, rising to mid- to high-grade when I try to eat or drink anything.
