Tall hirsute officer: No Doc, I think it really IS moving more slowly. I've seen it happen before after a big battle. One side loses interest if they are unhappy with the results. Pretty soon a day takes two or three days.

Doc Daneeka: Yossarian, you are the craziest SOB in the squadron, but don't quote me on that.

Interesting situation in New Guinea. The LYB's have been so focused on New Scotland, there are quite a few Allied bases that have not been cleaned up.

Look at Terapo. We could fly in some air support units and stage some fighters there to cover a landing, then try to build up the airfield.

Maybe put some mediums at Horn Is and try to knock down Madang a bit and put some heavies at Cairns and suppress PM.

Cairns and Cooktown need to be built up. More aircraft are need in Oz. The defence of Darwin to Alice line is rightfully consuming what there is.

I am quite pleased to announce I have just finished a major work of fiction. I hate publisher's deadlines but without them I would never get anything done.

I am waiting for editorial feedback now. I would be happy if they just leave it alone.

I am calling it California Form 540R 2009.

Catchy, huh?

Have you got much in the way of coastal defence/AV at Horn Island?- I'm suprised the LYB haven't tried taking it.

It's THREE divisions (5th, 38th and 6th Gds) plus at least 2 regiments...plus some armor somewhere.

We are indeed in trouble.

I think we are going to lose Katherine...then Darwin will be next.

What do yout think?

1) Stand and fight at katherine, hoping 32nd ID can get there in time (if failed...then get out by sea or across country)

2) Send the brigade down from Darwin (risky) but this is certainly their main effort.

3) Reinforcement by sea from Eastern Oz (I guess this would have to be US Army or Brown Jobs from Africa or something) We would need to build up Cooktown and would need carriers to get them in I think.

4) More forces up from Alice by land.

5) Reaguard action at katherine and get out now

I sat option 5 with stop line at Dusty Springfield.. I think they're just trying to prevent us from bombing the DEI from Darwin.

It seems to me if you lose Katherine, everything in Darwin is doomed. Hold Katherine if you can, moving stuff up from Alice Springs and down from Darwin. Build up the port in Adelaide as fast as possible and start pumping stuff up to the North as fast as you can unload.

At this stage you want to keep from losing forces for no purpose, pull back and trade space - you can always retake the land later - if the evil empire gets onto decent roads then they can race down the centre of Oz and you are really, really, I mean really in trouble!

Each area they move down makes them more vulnerable to air attack - out in the open, and also flanking by armoured units.

Roger

Retreat, there is no way you can get enough reinforcements up from Alice Springs in time to put up a decent fight. The further South you go, the faster you can reinforce. Where is dusty Springfield though, did the new code book get lost in the mail ?

Agreed. There is no way 18th Div and some armored sorghum harvesters are going to stand up to greater part of 4 Jap infantry divisions, even with level 4 forts and good air support.

I say we get everything but the static CD guns and a smallish Aviation support unit out of Darwin. Maybe we can keep up the pretense that we are going to hold there with air activity.

We will have to get the support ships out via the Cortes Strait.

I would favor keeping 18th Div in Katherine for now and make them deploy in force. I think the reason 5th Div has not moved on Katherine is they dont want to be defeated in detail and are waiting for the other two divisions. Alternatively, 5th Div or the two regts may try to cut the road to Darwin.

When the support troops evacuating Darwin are safely past Katherine, then we can pull out 18th DIv. In the interim we can bomb the crap out of everything larger than a prarie dog. I sent the A-20's at Brisbane to Sydney to convert to B-26B's and a group of 5 B-26's to Brisbane from NZ.

We also to need to hold the door open at that hex SE of Katherine and chop down the supply request at Darwin and boost it up at Katherine.

Yes, saw that too. Right now I think it's Royal Normantown Segway Bn., but they are still using bicycles.

We need a brigade and some CD guns.

Also, there is a green dot hex with some unpronounceable name on the Melbourne-Alice railway that coudl be vulnerable to parachute attack.

Yes all these areas are vulnerable to paradrops. Get as much heavy bombers as you can ready to pulverise them as they advance in the open, they can be shredded in this way.

However if they have brought enough then you are in trouble. Advantage is they don't have much ion the way of navy after the battering you both took over New wherever it was.

No sense getting all maudlin over the mortal peril to 50,000 Allied troops. Let me tell you the story of my neighbor up the street (right next door to the guy who has a Mazeratti AND a prius). His wife passed away. Really sad. They were retired and did everything together....even 11 Super Bowl games in person.

Here is what happened the first Super Bowl after she passed away. Touching. I dare you not to be moved.

He had two of the best tickets for the Super Bowl. He sits down and
soon another guy comes along and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat
next to him.

"No", he says, "the seat is empty."

"This is incredible!" said the other guy, "who in their right mind would have
a seat like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event of the
year & not use it?"

He says, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. My wife was supposed
to come with me but she passed away. This is the first Super Bowl we
haven't been to together since we got married."

"Oh... Gees ..I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. I guess you
couldn't find someone else, a friend or relative or even a neighbor to
take the seat?"

The man shakes his head...

"No. They're all at the funeral."

Great AAR one of the best like reading a good book :) good aggressive play also.

Unfortune no 6th and 7th Australian divisions in Australia (couple of the best), it is always hard to make the choice to take them out of India/Burma operations. But still even bad things like crazed highly experienced Japanese divisions running wild in the outback leaves open a good chance to destroy them completely unless they end up drinking Saki on the beautiful south australian beaches.

Think they will be happy with all the north though

For your convenience I´d suggest using the additional codenames Beer a´ Week, Amy, Adam Sedgwick and Del Piero Straight for the current operation.
Respective for Daily Waters, Katherine, Darwin and Torres Straight.

Oh, see that its Cortez Straight already, too bad.
