Moral Comparisons

France is finally increasing in moral at a good pace. G.B. is also looking much better. Poor Austria has started back on the road to recover, but it has a long ways to go.

Economy

Budget surpluses have increased since the end of the last war. Finances are still tight. Many provincial improvements that could be/should be started are still languishing on the drawing boards due to a lack of funds. Even under these circumstances it has been decided to lower taxes. This is required to offset the effects of "waste" on total production. The tax rate has been set to 28%-it will likely go a little lower.

Unit cost increase is down to 13%, but will take another jump due to a new corp that was ordered to be formed. There is one good Ottoman corp commander that should be in a main army, but has no corp to command.

Production Report

Production is barely adequate. The effects of 8% waste are brutal.

Wool and cotton production have been adjusted to stop the rapid drop in stock. The numbers shown in the left column are what is left after producing the 35 textiles and exporting 37 units of both. A total of 177 is being used at this time. At times in the past it has been over 230 used each month.

Spice and luxuries are showing what is left after consumption, but not trade. 32 spice is being consumed each month and 30 traded away. There should be a monthly drop in stocks of about 14.

In August there will be another level 5 province-so ion September there will be a 2% reduction in waste. The next level 5 will come in December. It is possible that a protectorate or two will be formed to reduce waste.

Hi Zap

It may be possible to achieve victory with the other nations while not playing close attention to economic matters. That is not the case with the O.E. Its economy is a built in handicap which should preclude it from achieving victory in the game. I had played as Turkey in SP mode before this game started-so I knew what I was getting into. I also knew what I would have to do if I wanted to have a chance of becoming the Grand Pubba of all Europe and beyond.

The economics aspect of this scenario are quite interesting. I have gotten better at it as the years rolled along. In the beginning I was sort of lucky in my choices. I need a little bit more of luck now-the end game presents some different choices in priorities.

For Turkey, economics is as important as diplomacy and military operations in the long run. You can win a war or two, have some good alliances that actually help Turkey. However, if it is not strong enough to hold its own, on its own, in the end game it will be squashed like a bug by its wonderful neighbors.

The game has been out for a year and a half-long overdue for the move to its current location. I'm not sure how that will affect traffic in this forum. Hopefully it will not reasemble being buried alive.

Glory Standings

Spain is still the leading empire-for a while longer. The Ottoman Empire has a healthy monthly increase in glory-aside from any war action to maintain its lead over Great Britain-this will be a great dilemma for King Kingmaker at a later time.

Barracks are being completed in every corner of the Empire.

King Kingmaker has seen fit to send some gold to Turkey to assist in the war effort. This was a secret treaty.

Italy

The 1st Army, led by the Sultan, arrived in Veneto at the same time as the Prussian Army-an interesting event. Prussia is still neutral-it would be reasonable for it to continue being neutral. Of course, in time, it will have to pay for stabbing France in the back in the first Franco/Spanish war.

Although the Prussian army is small, it could still pose a threat to the O.E. if it could raid into Ottoman lands. To preclude such an event, large Ottoman forces are kept in the border areas.

Strength Comparisons

Ottoman military strength continues to rapidly increase. It has now passed France and is about equal to Russia in numbers. Quality is another issue. The French Army is still better than Ottoman forces. Ottoman forces are considerably better than the Russian Army.

The O.E. is widening its lead over Great Britain.

Developments are being completed as in the pre war years-the people and the Army are overjoyed.

Culture

The O.E. is gaining on Spain in culture. Spain will be loosing provinces during this war while the O.E. gains.

This current culture level adds 6 glory each month for the O.E. It could help in moral if there was something horrible to occur which drove national moral below 600. This level would add 23 points in moral per month in such a case.

Diplomacy

The Czar is getting a bit bold-he has issued a DoW against Prussia. There is not much I can do to help him until Spain is defeated. France is in a similar situation. He will be on his own for a while facing a formidable foe.

North Italy

The siege of Venice continues. The British Fleet has arrived to blockade the port. The Spanish in Venice are taking heavy losses. The 1st Army is starving the city, but may conduct an assault soon as the garrison looks to be weakening.

The Prussia Army has moved on-very wise. On this map, if you can see the green dots under the flag you can get an idea of the sizes of the various forces. On the strategic map above the sized of the HQ will give a rough comparison. The Prussian force is far to small to affect anything in this area.

Spain

The main Spanish forces are making their way north. I had some doubt as to how far they would come. There was a possibility that those forces would stay in the mountains south of the river.

The Russian Army is arriving on its western borders somewhat separated from its HQ's. In my current intl situation I do not see any Prussian forces, but some will surely arrive.

Desert Losses

The operation in North Africa were accomplished as planed. The 2nd Army landed in Tunis and attacked Tripoli at the outset of the war. Its next target was Benghazi. Due to that Province being one of this locations that supply cannot be trace through or into, the city had to be taken by assault. Each month od siege operations there would be very costly. The following list show just some of the losses suffered by the 2nd Army in just one month of besieging Benghazi.

Venice is taking some significant losses. The Spainish force is doomed. This will hurt Spain as that trapped force is not just militia, but artillery, cavalry and infantry.

Glory Standings

Great Britain and the O.E. are maintaining their relative positions. Great Britain will increase its rate of adding glory after this war, but so will the O.E.

France is making some good increases. I would not be surprised to see France finish in 3rd place. I would be surprised to see it finish in first place.

France is sending in some money again-this is much appreciated. It seems money is the one thing France has in abundance and the one thing the O.E. does not have in abundance.

Spanish diplomats are having a hard time getting my diplomats out of Italy. Spanish moral is being hammered from every angle-this will help for the time of a great battle.

Sweden has just added the patriotism doctrine. This will help it defend its homeland, but without allies to help it, Sweden is facing defeat also.

Army Report

The 2nd Army was given a little reward for its actions in Africa-it plundered Tripoli again. This should give some units a boost in moral.

Spain has captured one of the Ottoman colonies. It we be recovered in the peace. Spain has a big advantage in that area, but it is not so much a concern for the Sultan at this time.

It looks like there will soon be news of a great battle. France appears to have the upper hand. However, the Spanish Army is well trained and will benefit from fighting on its own ground. The French Emperor has cause to be concerned.
