I don't know..... I'm pretty fond of toilet paper.

Does the new iPhone have a real keyboard or do you still have to "type" on the touch screen?  That was a deal breaker for me with the old versions.

No physical keyboard. Frankly, after trying to type on my wife's blackberry, I much prefer the virtual keyboard.

Physical keyboards are for squares...

In other news, I'm playing Call of Duty: Black Ops. I don't know what drugs the developers at Treyarch were on, but they have to be illegal...

New iPhone 4 is very similar to earlier iPhones (iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS) - thus no physical keyboard - everything you do is tap on the screen with fingers!

BTW, I had Sony Ericsson P800, P900, P910, P990, P1 (all with stylus) and I can type on iPhone faster than on anything else (including some smart phones with full keyboard) - once you get the hang of it is is so natural and very very very fast!

I have fat fingers, and really need to "feel" the keys under them, since I can't see them (because the fat fingers are in the way).

I've used iPhone and Blackberry for work testing in the past, and the ONLY thing I liked better about the Blackberry was the "real" keyboard.  For the few short weeks I had one, I loved the slide out keyboard of the Palm Pre.

Hi all,

Ouch...

The ship's auxiliary generators are providing power to some critical systems but not to key "hotel" operations of the ship that control the climate, sewage disposal and other functions.

'Extremely trying' situation for passengers on fire-damaged Carnival Splendor

By Gene Sloan, USA TODAY

Engineers on the Carnival Splendor have been unable to restore power to the vessel in the wake of Monday's fire, leaving passengers facing a second day without air conditioning, hot food or working toilets.

The 113,000-ton vessel, one of the largest in the Carnival fleet, remains dead in the water off the west coast of Mexico.

"We know this has been an extremely trying situation for our guests and we sincerely thank them for their patience," Carnival president and CEO Gerry Cahill says in a statement. "Conditions on board the ship are very challenging and we sincerely apologize for the discomfort and inconvenience our guests are currently enduring."

Carnival says tugboats currently are en route to the Splendor to tow it to Ensenada, Mexico so that passengers can get off the vessel. The line did not give a timetable for how long the procedure would take.

Carnival says no one was injured in the fire, which occurred early Monday in the Splendor's aft engine room, but the main generators of the ship have been disabled and efforts to restart them have failed. The ship's auxiliary generators are providing power to some critical systems but not to key "hotel" operations of the ship that control the climate, sewage disposal and other functions.

The ship's crew is actively working to restore partial services," the line says in a statement.

When the fire occurred on Monday passengers initially were asked to move from their cabins to the ship's upper open deck areas but they've since been given access to their cabins and are able to move about the ship, the line says. Bottled water and cold food items are being provided.

Carnival says the Carnival Splendor is located approximately 55 miles west of Punta San Jacinto, Mexico.

The ship was on the first leg of a seven-day Mexican Riviera cruise that began on Sunday in Long Beach, Calif., when the fire broke out. Carnival says passengers will receive a full refund for the trip as well as reimbursement for transportation costs. In addition, passengers will receive a credit for a future cruise equal to the amount paid for the current voyage.

Carnival says there are 3,299 passengers on the vessel.

Cruise Loggers, share your thoughts below.

UPDATE, 8:01 AM ET: A Carnival spokesman tells USA TODAY engineers on the Splendor have restored power to the ship's cabin toilet system, and running cold water also has been restored to cabin bathrooms. Other systems remain down.

UPDATE, 10:29 AM ET: Carnival says in a statement that the tugboats that will tow the Splendor to Ensenada are expected to arrive at the vessel today around midday local time. The line has not released an estimate as to how long it will take to tow the ship into port.

UPDATE, 1:35 PM ET: The US Navy says it has diverted the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan to help deliver needed supplies to the Carnival Splendor, which remains adrift off the coast of Mexico with limited power. In a statement, the Navy says 35 pallets of supplies will be transferred tonight from a Naval Air Station in California to the aircraft carrier, from which they will in turn be transferred to the Carnival Splendor via a helicopter.

Cruise ship fire leaves 4,500 stranded off Mexico coast

by BBC

A cruise ship which sailed from California has caught fire and is having to be towed back to shore, with 4,500 people on board but unharmed.

The Carnival Splendor sailed with nearly 3,300 passengers for a cruise along the Mexican Riviera:

The Carnival Splendor was 200 miles (310km) south of San Diego, when the blaze broke out on Monday morning, said owners Carnival Cruise Lines.

US Navy helicopters are shuttling in supplies and tugboats are expected to bring the ship to the Mexican port of Ensanada by about 0300GMT on Wednesday.

Passengers will get a full refund.

They will be returned to California by bus.

The boss of Carnival Cruise Lines admitted the conditions on board were "very challenging".

Drifting

The 952ft (290m) Carnival Splendor sailed from Long Beach, California, on Monday for a seven-day cruise of the Mexican Riviera.

There are 3,299 passengers on board, along with 1,167 crew.

The fire in the engine room cut off most power supplies. Toilets and cold running water were restored on Monday night.

Air conditioning, hot food service and telephones are not working.

The ship has been drifting 55 miles (90km) off the coast of Mexico.

When the fire started, passengers were initially asked to move from their cabins to the open upper deck.

Later, they were allowed to go back to their rooms.

Bottled water and cold food items were provided, the cruise company said.

The US Navy has sent the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan to help. Its helicopters are in the process of ferrying supplies.

Sixteen Britons are among the passengers on board.

Carnival President and CEO Gerry Cahill said in a statement: "We know this has been an extremely trying situation for our guests and we sincerely thank them for their patience.

"Conditions on board the ship are very challenging and we sincerely apologise for the discomfort and inconvenience our guests are currently enduring."
