i understand that it was considered a design failure (on the A380), not so much because the engine failed but because when it did, it was not contained in the "armored box" of the engine, but punctured the wing when it blew out...

So, not so much that the engine failed but rather that it might have taken out a wing as well... iirc, wing failure on an aircraft is not good!

My brother learnt to fly; from what i recall, he never talk about wing failure being a problem
I seem to remenber that Tocaff in his AAR on old Witp forum gave a few rules about flying planes, and there was the same that my brother told me:

- nobody ever had accident colliding with the sky
- nobody is known to have win a contest against the floor when colliding with it

and the one that scared me the most (because i was at this time in the small plane that my brother borrowed):
- a good landing is just a controlled crash !!

(edited so that the ironical joke is more easy to see)

You should see some of the landings I've experienced

USS America would definately approve!

just out of curiosity (and being a bit ironical here, just to kindly taunt my american brothers), i would really like to compare the "too much caffine" you had, and the one i drink

OK guys, we already had a debate on coffee maybe a year ago on the Thread, but i still believe euro are drinking a stronger coffee than americans buddys

Well, we know more about beer than them, so why not coffee...?

When we visited Britain, the coffee was just awful...

The TEA on the other hand, was great!!

Of course, i am not sure this translates to the rest of Europe, nor if the situation was changed in some years... i do know the coffee quality in the US has markedly improved in the past few decades.

Just don't ask us Europeans what we think of American coffee (and beer)...

Hi Leo,

Here in New Zealand I drink.

Imported Dutch Coffee (cos it's the best)
American Beer (cos Kiwi and Aussie beer is all chemically made now)
English Tea (cos it's the best of the bunch)
Australian Wine (cos the Kiwi stuff is too expensive now)

Not much of a Kiwi am I.

American Beer? What kind? I live here and I won't drink most of the swill. What brands are they sending to you?

Heh... when i was in New Zealand some years ago, i was in a restaurant and asked what kinds of beer they had... the waitress offered this new American import they had, which she thought was quite exotic... called "Budweiser" (which she thought was pronounced "Bud-wheezer")...

You can get Bud at the local supermarket now, and waitress's are not renowned for their sophistication, even down-here where most people are smarter that average.

I agree with everything except for American beer...

Are there no imported European beer "down under"?

Well, this was 1986... it was sort of surreal visiting your country... the ONLY news we got was about the "Rebel Rugby Tour", except for one day when the US bombed Libya. Every other day the headlines involved the RRT...

When we got home, my friend searched all of his ~2 weeks of newspapers (Washington Post) and there was NO mention of the Rebel Rugby Tour then entire time.

Of course, this was pre-internet...

Oh yeah, and the postcards we mailed to friends arrived >6 months after we got back...

PS - from the amount of press coverage it got, i expect the "Rebel Rugby Tour" features a prominent place in your history books as say, the Falklands War!!

Hmm ... seems like the Swedish Armed Forces signed an agreement with Microsoft that allows us employees to buy the MS Office 2010 Plus for just 12 Euro ...

I'm not a greater fan of the office package, but that price was a little too good.

Downloading now @1.2 Mbit/s
