What's up with this? I create some replenishment task forces at Noumea, load them up with fuel, and keep them docked so that they can take off when a TF needs fuel.

As far as I can tell, they burn fuel!

Doesn't it say in the manual that a transport task force with no destination will begin unloading?

My question is why, if I have a transport task for made up of only an AO and I set it to continuous supply, it gets stuck and doesn't return to base or go to its destination. This seems like a bug. (v1.03)

Its replenishment, not transport.

Seems like I have seen this too but need to confirm. What I recall on replenishment is when they get out to sea that their fuel load is already smaller. Not sure same item you are addressing but I have wondered about this.

I believe they use fuel because even docked, they keep their boilers running so they are ready to disembark at any time. If this is accurate, they should use significantly less fuel while docked.

On the other hand, an undocked TF is assumed to be cruising around inside the hex and using fuel as such. I sometimes forget this when at a dot base with minesweepers.

I want to know why task forces made up of tankers and puny escorts like PCs and PGs operating from Truk to Rabaul show 50 fuel in red as their full load (not counting in cargo), when it is obvious the escorts will borrow fuel from the tanker (either its tanks or it's fuel cargo) etc.

Also, how realistic is it for a ship that is out of fuel to move 1 hex per turn (or is it one per night and one per day?).

60 miles a day is a long way to row - that is 100kms in 24 hours! While kayakers in the Hawkesbury Challenge regularly do 111km in 14 or 15 hours, rowing a kayak is easier than paddling a submarine!

I'm not sure where I read this, but I seem to recall reading from a reliable source that the reason for the 1 hex minimum movement is so that their was no need to impliment towing into the game.

While I agree it is a bit unrealistic, I have been thankful when a bunch of MSW or other small ships suddenly pack up and start sailing for home because they are out of fuel. While in a hex with several Replenishmen TF's with fuel. So, two unrealistics make a realistic? Well, maybe not, but it saves some headaches.

I think Makaer is right about the out of fuel ship movement. Matrix and 2by3 just didn't want to have to worry about towing routines. (IIRC, that statement is in the manual.)

As far as the red number goes, seems like it should display that way. First of all, consider that yas ou will be borrowing fuel from the AO just to support the escorts, the useable fuel load will be lower when the TF (either Transport or Replenishment) reaches its destination. Also, taking on fuel ueses Operations points, which effectively slows down the TF.

In both cases, the red range flags you that ther is a fuel problem. You know it will be compensated for, but there will be an effect on your TF performance. Good information to have.

If its a replenishment task force at Truck, Brisbane, or Noumea, where the women are good looking and the fuel flows like honey, I sure would appreciate it if these replenishment task forces would stay topped up.
