This will be my first AAR for this game. I hope to get some feedback as to how well I am doing or not doing. I still have a good bit to learn I am looking for some critical analysis of my play.

Here goes. Turn one Army Group North. I managed to isolate a good bit of the poles in the north. The 9th, 28 and POM are cut off. I used an advance card form one of my officers to advance in the center. I hope to cut off the 16th and 4th Polish divisions on turn 2. Also I am going to advance towards Grodono to secure that objective by turn 3 or 4.

Detail of North attack. I was fortunate to get a advance card from one of my officers to push the I10 armor unit forward to limit the 28th and POM divisions movement. I hope on turn 2 to surround the 16th and 4th Polish division so they cannot participate in the defense of Warsaw.

Grodno by turn 3 or 4 may be dicey. Assuming the Poles defend it.

Army Group South. Great progess is being made here. Again I drew a good officer card (only one) to advance units more than normal. I pushed the 1st Panzer units forward as much as I could. I think I have cut off (to some degree) the 10th Polish division and Krakow Cav units. I know they can get out of the trap but their ability to move will be limited. I plan on using only Infantry to clear the southern polish unit.

In the north I got another advance bonus and used it on Lehr to advance to the south. I should be able to cut off some more units in turn 3. I have contained the 9th Polish division and hope to finish it off next turn. Also, I hope to cut off the rest of the 16th, 15th and 4th Polish division. The 27th and POM are isolated north of the advance and should be dealt with by german infantry over the next couple of turns.

The rest of the northern advance has been slow. I have just been able to maintain contact with the Polish units. My advance on Grodno will take longer than originally planed.

Turn 2 in the south is going slow. I had hope to get across the river in 2 hexes but only managed one. Still I hope I draw an advance card next turn to help with the push. The 10th Polish division is cutoff.

South turn 2. Karkov cav division is withdrawing in somewhat good order. I had hoped to cut it off but this has not happened. I am pushing forward and am please with the effort in this area.

Turn 3 northern front. The advance is not going very well. Slowed to a crawl this turn. I was able to flank the 8th division which should force the 8th and 20th division to start to retire. The 4th 15th and 16th divisions are now effectively cut off. It should be a matter of time before they fall.

The rest of the northern front. On the eastern part of the northern front the polish units are putting up a good front. The advance in this area will be slower than I thought.

A very good turn in the south. I was able to surround the 30th Polish Division and half of the Karkow Cav. The 2nd and 4th panzers were able to advance with a good draw of the cards. 2nd Panzer and 13th Infantry division used advance cards and the 4th got a card for increased attack. With this advance the polish position here should be in trouble.

The 5th panzer pushed forward and with the 2nd panzers advance the line of polish divisions should be in some trouble. This includes the 7th Polish and 23rd Polish divison. A very good turn in the south. Just the opposite of the advance in the north. I hope to see some comments on my game so far. I am wondering how well I am doing.

Turn 4 Northern Front. A somewhat OK turn. Still not making the headway I thought I would. Slow go here. The Polish units are withdrawing in good order.

Southern Front: Things are going better down here. The Polish player is just retreating and giving up objective. Seems sort of strange to me. Still he has maintained a good solid front.

Turn 5 northern front: The polish player is retreating in very good order. It is just enough for me to maintain contact with the poles. I made a mistake with my enginners that cost me some time.

Southern front. I am still making headway down south. Just not enough. The polish player is just retreating everywhere. I think he is going to pull everyone back to Warsaw. That could become a problem for me.

you seem to fight a very good polish defender. there is a discussion if you play to cautios. what's your take on this? could you have been faster if you would accept more german losses? whats your take on the game so far?

Excellent AAR. I have made a longer break from the Matrix site and just got to read your AAR in one sweep. Thanks for writing it.

I always found it very hard to conquer Warsaw in time and think it is not a bad strategy to go for "the rest of Poland" instead. But in order to achieve that, it is probably necessary to threaten (feign on) Warsaw sufficiently so that the Polish start to cluster around their capital protectively and leave the other cities less protected.

The continuous retreat strategy of your opponent seems very strong. I wonder if anybody has found a good recipe against this?

I hope you continue to report on this game.
