Here I am still learning all the intricate in's and out's of the map editor and the texture making abilities.

This is what I call my softer map. The textures are much softer and I've tried to get them to be more easily recognizable from one to the next.

Happy Thanksgiving to those that celebrate that holiday!

Good Hunting.

Looking good. I am getting more anxious as the days pass. I like these textures that you just used, they show up better.
Now the 15 cent question, ... when will we get to play with this update?

It's always been 4Qtr 2010. Matrix still has a month before that deadline is up.

Good Hunting.

Here is my last version of the Maus map showing where the Maus' final resting place is off to the left.

You can see the differences in the terrain textures much more easily with this level of texturing I'm using now.

Good Hunting.

In a Test game against another tester, I had a Panther A moving up to get postion for flank shots on a couple of T34-85s. At least until his air support arrived.

You can almost see what's left of my Panther in the fireball.

Wow! There's no place to hide on that map.

Any air support is going to be hard hitting there.

Good Hunting.

Are there any changes to how air support will be handled, effectiveness, ect.? I always found air support to be one of the weaker aspects of CM, it would be nice to get a good system that compliments the game.

An after Chrismas release,... maybe for my birthday. How thoughtful guys. Thanks.

Air support is still handled by the the AI. You don't get to pick target or time. there have been some improvements in the way targets are selected, but there is also chance for friendly fire. For myself, I dont rely on Air support, and don't choose it over other support.

Thanks

The airsupport is modeled fairly close to the CM model at the moment. With several exceptions.

1) The actual aircraft come onto the battlefield and attack. Not just a shadow.

2) They will not attack units that they have no LOS to. They won't attack units in forest or buildings that they couldn't possibly see.

3) They attack friendly units much less often.

Good Hunting.

We keep working on the update as we go. Fixing the last item has taken time. Time that we continue to use to make the game more immersive and hopefully better all around.

Good Hunting.

Very nice work on the IVj above.

And of course, the scenery and uniform textures look great.

Question:

Is it possible to render the infantry with more polygons so as to loose the "pointy-headed" helmet-effect?

I think spellir has tried and reached the point of diminishing returns.

Well, I guess that's just the nature of 3D art!

I did a quick comparo with the headgear in CM1 just now, and the helmets appear somewhat less angular in the older game. However, the textures are much lighter than those found in PzC, so it may be the contrast that accentuates the angles in y'all's rendition. Conversely, I observed a tank-commander wearing what I suspect was supposed to be a "****-cap." Regardless of the intent, it looked rather more like a darkened baker's hat. All in all, I greatly prefer the high-poly models found in PzC to those in the BF/CM1 games.

Hopefully when you get the game on your screen it will look better than the bmp converted to jpeg that we post here.

Overall, I like the looks of what has been done. If I were to nit-pik about anything it would be the standing tree's bark. I like the pile of logs that the infantry is behind, but the standing trees look odd. Again, not a bad thing, just a nit-pik. Thanks guys for all the work, and it does look great.

One thing to try with the pointy head thing is the take the existing model (presumably a mirrored model as this seems to be the universal 'easy route') and then replace the two or four upper polygon rows with 3 or 5, so the top line is flat quads (further triangulated for final use).

The resulting model won't be appreciably higher in poly count, and the number and angle of 'points' will be almost the same, but I find that this catches the eye far less than the spike-top that comes from a mirrored model.

Guys,

Remember we are a small team of volunteers trying to crank out a huge amount of stuff in a short time! So it may not all be AAA+ pixel perfect.

One of the nice things about PCO is if you have any artistic talent at all you are more that welcome to improve things as you like. The models are all in standard .X format which we personally use a "cheap" $50 dollar editor (fragMotion) to work on. You could use Blender for free if you can get along with its UI.

All we ask is that if you create, you share

S.
