Ikkuro gets my vote on these ships.
Funny. The more great shipsets you do for other races, the more I'm waiting what you can do with new Kiadian shipset, even if I love the original shipset.

Yeah Woodman, you might put somebody out of a job

Really though, very thematic shipsets, very well done and quick turnaround times to boot!

Great work, I've played all my games with various versions of your shipset!

For info, the ambitious Naxx plan is to make their ships look like birds, they are dinosaurs with feathers But I doubt I could make them to be honest.

You should take a look at 'the swarm' DLC in Gratuitous Space Battles. They're very birdlike.

Lol, Ehsumrell

Thanks all for the kind comments, and cheers Erik for stopping by.

@J HG T I recall you saying previously you like their default set, which is why when I do them I will try something with that particular set

The previously unidentified ships have now indeed been identified to belong to the Ikkuro. Although they don't particularly resemble the Ikkuro colours or anything they are very middle of the road looking. The don't look advanced, but don't look primitive, they don't look evil, but do look aggressive. I think these are all traits that the Ikkuro also exhibit. Shipset will be coming later tonight, its maybe the nicest looking in-game of all so far, and oddly has been the quickest to make too.

If you followed the thread you probably noticed how I always moan about the spaceports I make, well this time I decided to make sure they look decent, here is a large (and maybe medium too) spaceport.

Hi Woodman,

One question, the latest shipset has some models as PNG's and some as BITMAP's . ie. some have a white(clear) background (PNG) and some a black background(BITMAP).

Any reason for this?

Hey Driller!

Yes, there is a rare problem where ships have flashing lights on them where they are not meant to be.  You can get around this problem by saving the file as a .bmp with a black background instead of a .png with a transparent background.  The black appears transparent in the game, and the bugged lights disappear.  The only drawback is larger filesize, which may in turn lead to performance issues, but on my computer at least its not an issue.  So, when at all possible use .png but if you have to because of the lights issue, use a black background .bmp

Hope this clears things up

Great work as always. The Capital ship, for some reason, reminds me of big, old trees and mountains. Probably the way it's meant to be.

EDIT: Seems like the Setekhs method of overwriting the race file with the new version is the way to go, considering saved games. Installed the V.9 this way and had absolutely no problems with saved game I'm currently playing as Teekans (Jawas in space!).

AI Wars has also a ton of top down spaceships, if you ever need (I doubt) inspiration.

Majority of AI wars ships are part of some freeware graphs release, so they aren't actually "original". If you have played Tyrian SHMUP back in the 90's, you know what I mean. They still look good though in their own retro way.

Hey all, thanks for the comments.  AI wars is a game I've never looked into, but I've heard nothing but praise for it.  As for the GSB Swarm ships I took a look at them, they are close to what I had in mind for the Naxxilian, but as I'm doing this project using only DW art I won't be cutting up any GSB ships.  I have tried making wings using some wing templates I found on the web and warping the DW ship parts around them, but the results were pretty poor.

At the moment I am slowly working on Ugnari and Boskara, both are time consuming and complicated and the Ugnari I'm finding image size a particular stumbling block, increasing image size is not pretty.  Both sets are non-symetrical but they will take a while, so they won't be in the next update or two.

Next race up may be Securan, I've done a little work on them, its a symmetrical set and the ships are quite easy to make, so hopefully tomorrow or the day after for an update   I'll put some previews up soon, I'm not sure what people expect Securans to look like, but I've always had this image in my head from the start.

Let me know your opinions on what you think Securan ships would look like, it'll be interesting to see if anyone has similar ideas or if I'm completely off track

Securan always remind me of Syreens from Star Control 2. Anyway, I liked their original shipset even if it was shared with some other races. It fitted the securans best I think. I'm guessing the Securan ships are quite simple, "aerodynamic", sleek, practical and don't have many extra shiny bits. Oh well, we'll see soon enough. I trust in Woodmans imagination, which I have plenty, and skill, which I have none. Therefore the respect for Woodmans work.

The Securan remind be of the Eleria from MoO2, for obvious reasons. Im currently playing the Mortalen simply because of the ships. Going to try the Quameno next because their ships look so different than the others. I always thought the Boskara ships should look like the shadow ships from B5. I find myself checking back on the forum everyday now just to see if there is a new shipset, thanks woodman for you time and effort.

Just installed Diverse Worlds v9. When I try to change the race, I get an "index out of array" message. When I choose "Continue" (instead of "Abort"), I can actually start a game with the race appearing after pressing "Continue" (sometimes, but not always the race which was there when I went to the Empire selection screen - sometimes it looks like the software jumps to a race arbitrarily).
After the third attempt to choose a race, I'm thrown back to the desktop.

Could there be a version issue? The races.txt files says "DW Version 1.5" while I am on 1.6.

The version number in races.txt should not matter at all. It's just description text that's left un-updated by Woodman.
Over which version did you install the V.9?
The best way to install the Diverse worlds new versions currently is to just overwrite the race.txt with new one and put the new shipset to the images folder, all manually. I don't know about others but my file extractor seemed to mess up the folders when trying to extract over the current version.
No problems for me using this method when updating from V.8 -> V.9. Even saves worked no problemo.

Hey Greywolf!

Do you have any other mods installed such as Star Wars or Star Trek, basically something that uses races which won't any longer be available once you change back to either the Default or the Diverse Worlds theme?

Sometimes starting a new game can cause a problem after switching to another theme that uses different races.  You should go into the new game setup (with your other mod still activated, ST/SW etc) and remove any manually set up AI Empires in the new game screen.  Once its clear, then switch your mod.  Let me know if this helps.

Otherwise I'm not sure   Anybody else had a problem like this at all?
