All I was saying, if you control the high ground in Texas, which there is hardly any, where I live, you can see for a long way. When I said division I was assuming the Mexico wouldn't have the resources to mount an extended campaign in the states, so I figured they would only send small forces intent on doing damage. And once again I'm assuming but I don't think Mexicos army was very big, and they have a large border to defend, so why would you want most of your forces attacking when the US could invade Mexico itself while defending from the invasion. Best defence is a good offence.

As I said earlier...

Unless you know something I don't know (!) Then I highly doubt that there was that much American Armed Forces in Texas at that point ready to defend against a major invasion with a one day warning for most of the border areas, probably less.

And you didn't answer my question.

If you were around in 43 or so, and Mexico just up and invaded Texas, Would you have expected it?

And it doesn't matter if America could have invaded Mexico, commitment of Assets that it honestly I think didn't have in the area, and couldn't have moved quickly enough untill completion of the Eisenhower Interstate System which was in the 50's I believe.

Could you tell me where you get the idea that tells you America had some huge vast army just sitting around in texas? If you can prove it, I'll listen, but a wee bit of evidence won't hurt ya ;) I'm not like Suvorov :)

Mexico would have become the 49th state and we would also have given statehood to Portorico so we could have an even number of stars on our flag!:p

I didnt say there was an army, maybe i should of added if in my post but come to think of it you wouldn't need an armor disvsion. Texas has a big population and a lot of the people had weapons. So when Mexico invadeswith their inf divsions the don't meet organized restance they meet small groups of people willing to die for their country. So the Mexicans have to advance into unknown group defended by people who have lived there their whole lives and don't want to live. Their would eventully lose but big modren armys don't do well against guerillas, look at Veitnam or Russians invasion of Aganistan of the Chechins(spelling?). Just my thoughts, remember the topic is What If.

A good "what if" is the combination if geography, economics, ideology, politics, and oh of course military considerations.

Mexico attacking the US fails on to many levels.

Might as well ask what would happen if Canada attacked the US.

Don't think it possible, hmmm think about this, you let us into the country all the time.

We insert thousands of troops equiped with biological weapons intended to completely overwhelm your border crossings. We use same method to swarm all of your military basesn (just enough to ensure they are not worth much to you). Total panic ensues.

We move our admittedly pathetic military into action and announce we are supporting a "Free South" , it's a lie of course but it buys us vaulable time when the south stabs you in the back as we all know they will. We publicly state Texas will gain their independence and you are now fighting on three fronts or at least dealing with three areas of reeeeeeeeal confusion.

We infiltrate a few key nuclear missile sites and in a display of incredible fanaticism detonate in place several warheads leaving a major "hole" in a normally livable part of the US for like forever effectively.

At this point your country dwindles into pure anarchy as petty militias start taking over places aided by Canadian funding covertly.

Sound insane?

Of course it's all insane.

We are your largest trading partner not just country X. You are not going to attack us any more than we attack you period end of story.
Sure the US has had problems with Mexico in the past. Ypu have had problems with the South with Texas, with Native Indians, with your black population, with Cuba and most of Central America at one point.
And not one of them has a realistic reason for attacking you today.
Simply nothing in it for them.

A "what if" is just an imaginative plot for a science fiction novel if it has no basis in credible "possible" outcomes.

Les the Sarge 9-1

I too have read the book you refferred to on WWII "what ifs" and found it to be quite good. There a couple others out there, I believe "Into the Rising Sun" about Japans possible other outcomes and decisions is one.

For those interested in some bizarre "what ifs" try Harry Turtledoves "Guns of the South", where the southern soldiers are given AK-47s. Or the "World War" series that starts in WWII. Very bizarre, those who have read it know what I mean, for those who haven't read it, much too hard to explain here, but a good read if you like a sci-fi/war mix.

I just thought of this one today. And for you anti-scfi people it could of happened. What if Hitler had been accepted into the art school his applied for. WW2 might not of happened. Heck Hitler might have gone on to be a great artist.

My God I think I'm going to be labeled a Nazi after saying this...but

I've seen some of Hitler's work, they were actually really good if you ask me, they had a character that alot of artists don't have, a uniqueness.

But that's me.

Now that someone said it. I think so too. Sure he sucked at anything but landscapes and buildings, a lot of it still is pretty nice looking.

what if finland, in the continuation war, would have kicked russias ***, taken St.petersburg and moscow, continued all the way to the ural mountains, then with germanys assitance taken siberia and kamthatckja and then later invaded china. and after that taken japan, philippenes and australia. Then after ruling 40% of earths landmass, started cloning soldiers and creating V-shaped interstellar battleships, destroy the american and british federation(trade), then a certain finn would have declared himself emperor, and rule over the newly renamed earth called "Coruscant". Then 50 years later engage with what is called "the Rebel Alliance", contruct a massive planetdestroying device called "the Death Star"?.:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

hey, stop looking at me like that, this thread is titled "What if" :D

Greetings...

Eva Braun Good looking? Hitler's Art showing talent? Hmmm.......

You know I used to work in a mental ward. The Psycotic's would sometimes paint some pretty bizarre painting during their so called therapy sessions... Too...

Hitler's Sex Symbol status was a political bluff. His reputed availability was just that. Reputation. Being single was a popularity ploy. In his early carear as Fuher he wasn't interested in sex because he believed that being celibate was the source of his creativity and energy. And later, his deranged mind and the effects of the poisons his doctors were daily injecting into him made him prety useless in that department anyway...

So what if: Hitler wasn't infested with syphilis? What if he wasn't a deranged psycotic? What if he were a good example of the fine strong Aryan that he wasn't?

Kanda'

Don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere or not, but there were plans for a long range jet bomber that could reach America - the Amerika Bomber .

That reminds me of some footage i saw once. It was fairly high quality (perhaps digitally enhanced) B&W footage of girls screaming. They were reaching out, throwing flowers, fainting and crying all over the show. I'd only just turned the telly on and thought 'ah, it's the Beatles or the Stones'.

It was bloody Adolf!!!

And birds have the cheek to go on at us about being obsessed over 'stupid computer games'!

Yep Hitler might have had little interest, and he might have had siphilis and Eva might have been wasting her time, but the bizarre thing is, they sure worshipped Hitler in some cases.

An interesting foot note to the Horten projects.
The designers of the B2 bomber ran into problems with the design of that aircraft. They were compelled to take a look at what was left of the Horten flying wing in storage at the national arcives. What ever the problem was, after studying the the Horten aircraft for a few days the engineers went back to work on the B2. The rest is history!
