Those darn Italians..........they forsaw the birth of the "Yugo" and like Skynet....attempted to alter the timeline by going back deep into the past in the hopes of sparing the sanity of many a future car owner.

they FAILED.

The "Yugo" was just an awful car... nobody liked it here...

Believe it or not it was still produced until just few year ago under name "Tempo"!

BTW, did you guys actually see it in USA and knew people who owned it there?

Good morning everyone.

Leo-yes, I remember the Yugo. I remember seeing it on the roads here and I even went into a dealership in So. Cal. back in the day.

Hopefully you decided not to buy it after you saw it up close...

BTW, our "Yugo" versions back there (in the 1980's) were much much worse than yours (USA had the "De Luxe" export versions)!

In the early 90's I drove a '76 Nova with a straight 6 engine and a "bench" style front seat. Massive cool points when you crank up the Steve Miller Band in that car.

I'm so glad that I missed that whole 70s mating ritual.

Ditto!

I was only 9 years old in '76, but I owned that car in the early 90's.

the early dispatches are in from Atlanta and the kids lost this morning's game.  Waiting to hear when their next game will be....likely didn't make the semifinals.

I can't think of anybody that would admit they owned one, that was like admitting to owning a Gremlin.

FLASH:  Latest dispatches from Atlanta indicate a position in the semifinals has been secured!  Opponent is a local rival team.  Spirits are high.  More to follow around 1830 hours.

Leo "Apollo11"

The Yugo got sort of a bad reputation where is was raised... a shipment of 20 were unloaded from a freighter (a ro-ro ship?) and driven across town to the dealership... i think 13 broke down.

When I lived in DC, there was a major Art School exhibit at Union Station called "a 101 uses for a dead Yugo, where the cars were turned into every imaginable use. A coffin,a phone booth, even a confessional!

In the mid 1980's they were trying to set up an assembly plant in my home town. It failed. Pretty much like everything else about the car.

Nope. Believe it or not, it was Saco, Maine. And it was part of a deal to revamp a massive sewer hole of an abandoned mills on, Saco Island. It was also top be apartments,Condo's,a marina, stores and restaurants and even a brew pub. The Brew pub and some small businesses, the apartments and a AMTRAK station made it, but no Condo's,Marinas,or Yugo's. They did get the University of Maine though. (If you are curious, email me and I can give you the insider scoop).

A friend of mine bought used Yugo as his first car. It was dirt cheap, and he thought it would be sort of fun to own something " unique ". Boy was it a mistake. Something was wrong with it almost every week. All of his friends helped him out on various fix up projects. It was like being in a real time , ongoing shop project for all of us. He didn't keep it for even a year. And he was much poorer at the end..

Is there some (preferably painful) way to make people spell "withdrawals" correctly around here?

Perhaps you could get them to stop spelling ANYTHING... i suppose they would not spell incorrectly if they weren't spelling at all... i don't know how you'd accomplish it over the internet, though...

These are usually the same people who spell "emperor" wrong...

I've just decided on a new term of derision for them: "Yubixa". It was my logon phrase just now, so it doesn't technically mean anything, but it SOUNDS derisive.
