Well, the release date for Shogun: Total War 2 is set. Lots of interesting games to come out over the next two months...

How certain is the verity of the release announcement? I'm still waiting on Duke Nukem, after all...

That's been set for May 3rd, although Thread knows why... Anyway, I'm buying Deus Ex: Human Evolution, Shogun 2, Homefront, Dawn of War II: Retribution and Dragon Age II, all before the end of March.

The only one on that list I'm even looking at is Dragon Age II.

+1

Did I mention that youre cheating. Theyre the farthest away from the Mongols and Temurids.

I do like their S&B guys, though.

Dammit. Just had my first major hardware error since I started building my own PCs some 10 years ago. Was running an AE CR when I got this "popping" sound from the PC, followed by the Blue Screen of Death (also a first). Guess some condensator blew up. When trying to reboot, the BIOS can't find my trusty old WD Raptor boot drive any longer.

Good thing is that my RAID-coupled storage drives show up as functional from the BIOS.

Off to buy a new boot drive - it will be an SSD this time.

bah...thats nothing.......my motherboard caught fire.

FIRE!....heh heh heh heh.......FIRE!

Shuttup Bevis.

As the Xhosa tribe says, Y'fmwi !

It's pr'olly your silly rescue Doby that drooled into the box - thinkin maybe there was a biscuit in there somewhere. Or maybe it was the pitbull droolin into the box; I mean, they ain't the sharpest crayons in the palette.

No...this was pre-Dobbie. What Dobbie does is far worse than a computer fire. He's a poo eater. The only thing he likes to do more than eat Poo is come find a human to lick in the face afterwards.

Hmmm ... doesn't every dog usually model himself after their master ... ?

BAM!

Good work Mike!

As I'm currently doing some work with the hardware, It's good to have thread brothers who can keep on top on LogBoy in the meantime.

I think our whole Sweden/North Carolina vibes are in sync again.

Ft. Bragg vs. Sweden. Not that I'm disloyal but I'd have to root for Sweden in that one. The women are just better looking.

Don't limit yourself to just Ft. Bragg. There are quite a few pretty "Carolina girls." I married one.

Besides, there must be a few ugly women somewhere in Sweden, right?

OK, how about we compare weather?

You got the last one?

IMHO, MTW2 is the best game in the series. The successor, Empire:TW was so disappointing for me, so I've haven't even bothered to look at the latest one.

Last weekend, I actually downloaded a Lord of the Rings mod for MTW2, on an recommendation from a friend. I look forward to playing that game again, but playing with Balrogs instead of Elephants

I liked Rome the most. For me the combat in M2 was less interesting. Heavy cav can basically charge through anything, then turn around and charge the other way.

I'm actually enjoying Empire quite a bit. Its a lot more interesting when you play as the weaker factions.

Rome:TW was really good as well. As for the Heavy Cav issue in MTW2 I put restraints on myself not to put more than two Heavy Cav units together in any army. Was a real challenge when facing the Mongols

As for Empire, it seems you have more patience than me

Of the Total War games I've played, I found the original Shogun:Total War to be my favorite WRT the subject matter. It had its big loopholes, but was great fun-particularly for its day and age.

Rome wasn't half bad either, but I couldn't help but feeling at least a little bit guilty crucifying so many Egyptians and Assyrians.

That takes quite a lot of restraint.

Mongols didnt require cav for me. Just some solid infantry and a buttload of bowmen. Now, the Timurids, on the other hand....

Thats rough.

What do you mean no booze? Has that much changed since Peter's time? His Russian contemporaries wrote the Swedes drank like fish. Even the Russians were impressed....which is saying something.

Didnt feel any guilt over the Egyptians. Its impossible to keep those buggers happy. They revolt for absolutely no good reason.
