I for one am excited about the pending release ! And I must applaud matrix for providing this huge amount of material, as a FREE UPDATE, for those of us whom already own PzC karkov and winterstorm! Unlike many other game companies out there that charge for patches in the vague form of an expansion (think hearts of iron 3 semper fi), Matrix has this thing right. I for one, am proud of what Matrix has done to date, and look forward to downloading this update. Like nearly everything in reality, what one wants is always tempered by things like: budget, time, expertise, standards, desires, wants, and so on. It reminds me of the famous cartoon of the playground - a multi panel cartoon, where you see an image of the playground as the students want it to be, as the principal wants it, as the school board wants it, as the financial secretary wants it, as the health and safety people want it, and finally, how it actually gets built. Like the previous posting mentioned, eventually one has to "freeze" the design and just do it, rather than keep adding and putting things off. In many ways its like construction engineering - theres the "plan" then theres how it was really built. Lets get on with this, make sure its not buggy being the most important, and be happy with what we get. After all, it is FREE, and for me, that makes it priceless and worth the wait ! Kudos to Matrix for doing this.!

Nope you haven't struck a nerve. Sorry it came across that way. After 2+ years of working on the update though it's time to turn it loose. More features cost more time.

Since you're new, I'll tell you that there has been a PATCH promised for PCK for almost 3 years now. 2+ years ago we were asked to come and help do a patch and then start work on the next version of the game. About 2 months into that the original developer stopped being a company. Matrix had to acquire the game and reset everything from square one.

For those concerned with Matrix' commitment to the PC series that should tell you everything.

All during that time those of us they asked to work on the patch turned this into an update instead.

The infantry model of the game needs work. We know that. We've concentrated on making the interface better and game mechanics as much as possible for a PATCH. While Matrix was busy, and I do mean BUSY, we kept going because they were trying to get more help for us. At some point they realized we were doing it all and just let us go.

The infantry model is much better than it ever was before. It's not totally fixed yet.

So, for 2 years we've heard, IS IT DONE YET? THAT LOOKS GREAT BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS? THIS IS STILL BROKEN! and as I said, at some point we have to release what we have. We fully intend on getting the infantry right.

But, as I pointed out, someone may get tired of what the animations look like and mod them. That has happened with other games and once PCO is released I expect that to happen here as well.

There is normal walking, advancing which is more cautious and rushing forward which is less cautious. 3 modes of advance for infantry.

Maybe that's a better explanation to your comments.

Good Hunting.

MR

Sounds good. No hard feelings. The game looks great and I think y'all have a winner on your hands. Not sure why I never got the first couple games, but I plan on a first day purchase.

Would you advise buying the older game to get a feel for the system or just wait until this gets released? If I did happen to buy the older game am I correct that I would get the update then for free? Seems like an awful lot of work for a free update, but I guess the improvements will make for a better franchise series. CM Normandy isn't in my plans as I don't have a system that would run it decently.

I'd actually sugges waiting at this point. Some things from the earlier game may actually need to be "unlearned", and we are really close to having a Demo out that will have all the bells and whistles of the new game.

I agree. PCO plays nothing like the earlier games. I'd wait and just learn the new system once.

Sorry, no airborne cavalry in this update.....

Now if I can get terrain textures for jungle and some fireteams with M-14/16's and AK's we'll see some airborne cavalry then!!

You with Gary Owen?

No worries, there's only one airborne air cavalry squadron in the United States Army. At least that was the situation when I was there, and while we traced our lineage back with the 82nd Airborne in WWII, it was not a cavalry unit then, it was the recce platoon for the Division.

Just run with the units you currently have and I'm sure I'll be happy with the result, just so long as it comes out soon.

Isn't there still an old demo? One map and scenario on it. To see the old system, play that one.

Hopefully if no bug fixes are required we will get the demo out to you in the next week or so and then the final game a week or two after that (depending on the feedback from the demo).

I would like to bring something to the developer's attention. I see this game is almost ready for publication. However you have still not addressed a very serious problem.
Specifically the stats for the PzIIf.

I have, after meticulous research, discovered that when this tank was deployed with the Spanish Blue Division a modification was made. The Spanish maintenance crews suggested a way to increase the armour of the PzIIf.
This consisted of them making a batch of Paella and smearing it on the front armour. Now this , sometimes with added Chorizo, greatly increased the ability of the vehicle to withstand AP shells. By as much as perhaps 25mm...No, make that 60mm.

I travelled to the Canary islands, and at Fuertoventura discovered a small WWII museum. I immediately checked the PzIIf there. It had greasy, slimy, food stains right across the front armour. Also a ceramic plate, metal knife, wine bottle, and a small cloth banner had been added to the turret. I asked the museum's curator to comment.

"Hmm.. it looks like the janitor has been having his lunch. Look, there's his tablecloth."

HAH! WRONG!

After much research I can assure you that the German Panzer regiments also made up a Paella/Pea Sausage/150g of crackers, modification locally. This unauthorised up-armouring had the effect of making the front armour of a PzIIf the equivalent of a KV-1. Far from ripping the turret off and flinging it 100m into the sky, a 76mm shell would bounce harmlessly off.

I ask the developer this.

1.Will the new 'ration covering,' unofficial armoured modification, be included in this game. For historical accuracy it can hardly be ignored!
2. Will the modification now permit the PzIIf to be impervious to all but rounds fired at close range from an IS-2 ?
3. Would you like some information on the rocket propelled, high impact, wooden AP projectile that some special rifles were adapted to fire? I have a picture of a modified Kar-98 stool-leg that I can post.
{Some claim it is in fact a rifle resting by a chair. But that is opinion only for the uniformed..}

I await your reply with a mix of amusement, outrage, schizophrenia, humour, bile, breathlessness and incredulity.
{Incredulity only if you fail to grasp my genius.}

Uzi-name.

ezz,

You bring up a good point.

However we are focused on the Eastern Front.

It was my understanding that all of the special so called "gastro-IIs" had their edible applique eaten by the french in the western campaign, and none saw action after 1940?

You are of course free to mod your own version. I don't think we have a Paella armour stat or model, but we do have one for baguettes and i would have thought that would be pretty close.

Regards

S.

P.S. Actually I would like to see something which was on the EF and is not talked about much but I understand played a large part in Russian defensive thinking after kursk when the German heavies became more prevalent. That is the stool (covered) 34. Now whilst stool (any type at a pinch) provided no actual shell protection bonus what-so-ever, it was far more effective and cheaper and available than Zimmerit (typical german overengineering) and would often throw german gunners off their aim. A type of poor man's invisibility shield which incidently the west is desperately trying to develop now (again typical overengineering - boys just drop a turd on it!)

S^2.

You know the closer we get to release, the more we're finding that we've left out, our forum supporters are having to point out to us.

I thought we were a pretty savvy group of guys, in the development team, but we're finding out just how limited our knowledge is to the average forum member. Who would have thought of looking all over the world for EF equipment? Not us. You guys find it everywhere and with photos to back up all kinds of things we missed.

I just like mustard on my hot dogs please. Oh, sorry, going off in the wrong direction here. You'll have to excuse me it's supper time and all this talk of food stuffs and such has me a bit underwhelmed.

The longer we go, the closer we get. And we have been at this a pretty good while now. So, that must me we're getting really close. At least that's what I would think; if it were me doing the thinking. Which of course I'm not.

Good Hunting.

MR

I believe the unauthorized consumption of the chorizo applique resulted in the abundance of zimmersh**. It was not actually applied but rather coincidental from embarking and disembarking from the tank. Once found to be effective, all troops were required to make the pilgrimage to an AFV several times a day until they were suitably covered.

This consisted of them making a batch of Paella and smearing it on the front armour.

Right off the bat, you've stepped in your own gumbo mi compadre.

In point of fact, the preferred term for the application technique employed by the fascists was slathered rather than smeared.

I await your reply with a mix of amusement, outrage, schizophrenia, humour, bile, breathlessness and incredulity. {Incredulity only if you fail to grasp my genius.}

Genius?

How are our readers to take you seriously when you fail to mention the differences between Valencian, Seafood and Mixed paella? I mean, REELEE? And if you're ever going to conquer the local "NO BS" heap, you're going to have to master the employment/exploitation of valuable resources like Mobius. You can start with something like this:

quote:

EZZ: Do you have any disaggregated data on the ACTUAL effectiveness of various sun-dried, seafood stews that were applied to the PaIIf by the División Azul?

Mobius: That's dependent on the starch and seafood content of the application as indicated by the table below.

EZZ: Apart from myself, few, if any, gamers grasp the impact of starch and seafood content on the effectiveness of paella as an armor supplement. Note the green shrimp.

Clearly, you've got a tough row to hoe here.

Off you go now, and make us all proud!

I read the first few sentences, and I thought we might have to wait another six months because some grog-nerd noticed something that needed fixing.

We are past the point of adding new features. Anything that some grog-nerd, even those of us on the team, comes up with will either have to be for a follow on update or PC4. We really are that close.
