And why aren't there elephant devices in the British base force units?

If only the RAF ground crews would have been able to fix said machines, they wouldn't have needed animal labor to move the planes around...

The important factor that you're missing here is that the word is actually spelled labour

Also, the Corsair was operated by the Fleet Air Arm and was thus the responsibility of Royal Navy ground crews to fix and maintain. So your attempted dig at RAF ground crews has fallen flat due to your shoddy historical knowledge There's also the fact that the RAF did not have base forces, although I believe I am correct when I say that the Royal Navy did maintain several. So there's another coming your way

I wish we still had an Empire though, the possibility of joing the military as an elephant handler is an interesting one

But since for most of the war FAA manning and deployment was under direct RAF control his dig is still valid in a roundabout fashion.

in other news......my long lost friend "one upya" commented to me the other day after my announcement of winning Triglyceride Lotto, "only 435??!! Hell....i had a rating of 699!!!!.....till i started taking Fish cod oil." (or some other similar product)

Given that anything over 150 means "Future cardiac event" (a quaint new doctor term for "Sieze up and expire") in all likelyhood, i think this is one comparison i'm happy to let him have.....

Dude! What the hell do you eat?

Its mainly hereditary. Even on lipitor and staying away from red meats and sweets, my dad's T levels are twice what they should be. Brother has similar issues and now it's my turn. Granted, my diet is not the best in terms of quality. I've eliminated any bad meat fast food trips for lunch due to lazyness in not buying the stuff to prepare my own which should help. GF unit and I have started hitting Whole Foods, a major organic produce chain around here. The meats and stuff they have there are really high quality but also very expensive. Oh well.....price of living better. At least the doctor didnt' tell me i needed to give up BEER!

How my friend "one upya" got 699....or whether it's true or not.....i couldn't tell you but i have a friend at work who's sister had a T level so high it was quote "Off the scale"

Good luck buddy.

Eating oatmeal 3 meals a day does not sound fun.

BLASPHEMER!!!

There is only one true THREAD, and Brother Nik knows it. He just tries to pretend otherwise.

All Glory to THE THREAD!!!

All Glory to wood!

You know you love it in the morning.......

Sure. But it makes it difficult to pee in the morning.

Yuri, you just need to get a little "help" with that situation.

In my case....the "Help" is a sponge and some bathroom cleaner. Guess there is a downside to "Morning wood"

You could try sitting down instead of spraying the ceiling. If that's not too feminine for ya....

To be honest we weren't sure there was anything in there for a couple of weeks. As you said the infection and some of the swelling had to go away first. By Sunday it was evident to me there was something still there because the original wound site was getting more purple and swollen. I called them Monday, they took care of me Wednesday morning. There was a large quantity of local anesthetics involved (thank goodness).

Wow, I'm glad they finally got that fixed up, Bruce!

I recall a couple of times that I got deep splinters I couldn't reach with tweezers. Once the infection set in I could pop the wound and the splinters came out with the puss... disgusting, I know, but it was an effective way to get rid of the splinter when I was a poor college student.

They really dont provide coffee to you guys ? You know how cheap a perk ( pun intended ) that is ? Geez

Yes.....and now that i'm at home i can tell you who the cheap-o's are...."ATT MOBILITY" (Coffee was probably the last perk to go......the only one left now is TP provided for the bathrooms.....we have a pool going on when that'll go and we have to start bringing in our own)

The part that really pisses off the workforce is that we get announcements like the above, for reasons of cost and then days later we get yet another quarterly report card email announcing mounds of financial success in meeting the goals and in one case, 'record profits' Managers litterally cringe when leadership pulls that.

and with all that success.....they can't even provide cheap ass coffee that makes Starbucks seem like some of JWE's Javarian brew. Guess the CEO needed another corporate Jet or something. I keep dreaming of the day when i finally get a bite on the job market and can just quit.....with 2 minutes notice.

and don't get me started on the big I.T. fiasco recently.

"They" took away our coffee type drinks about 2 years ago at my very Big Blue, International employer. Record profit growth for the last several years in a row now.

Cant complain. We got one of those machines with the one-time use cups of grounds. Its not half bad.

Waiting for the heating and air conditioning service man to come and do the free "checkup" on our system.

My furnace has a small gas leak..over $1300 to fix.

If I were you, I think I'd be more upset that my furnace has a gas leak.

i just discovered yesterday afternoon one of our three furnaces has a gas leak as well... when the propane tank went dry...

The furnace in the (heated) barn is the culprit, so at least we have heat in the house.

If the one in the house failed would you move to the barn?

Well it's been a busy week.

The highlight was the orthopedic surgeon removing a 3/8 inch long (that's about 9 to 10 millimeters) long piece of wood from my finger. It got in there back on December 31 during yard work

Holy crap, how in the world did you manage that ?

Better 1300 than to have the house blow up.  Unless it is leaking Carbon Monoxide.  Either way is bad.

Yes.....and now that i'm at home i can tell you who the cheap-o's are...."ATT MOBILITY" (Coffee was probably the last perk to go......the only one left now is TP provided for the bathrooms.....we have a pool going on when that'll go and we have to start bringing in our own)

I own my own business. it's only 22 employees, but it is a good office. I have worked for multinational firms ( one of the " Big Six " accounting firms ) have started from scratch, etc. And I realize that there is a constant balancing act between being bottom line oriented, and maintaining a motivated workforce.

But I am here to tell you that it doesn't really take all of that much ( free coffee, free soft drinks maybe, lunch/dinner brought in, sensible leave policies and so forth ) to keep people happy. And a happy group of folks is far more productive imo than an unhappy one. It simply requires work ( somtimes a lot granted ) by upper management to implement.

ok, enough of my ranting.

We swtiched to that type recently, has all sort of choices. And we found that we waste a lot less coffee now since we seemed to always be tossing out a pot of " old " coffee amd making new. And it tastes pretty good.

We have dual furnaces in the house... we just needed to cut off the supply to the affected furnace to stop the leak, so we could have stayed in the house if ONE of the two furnaces there was affected.

Dixie (with apologies to non-British who won't understand the following), but that picture
brings to mind a famous episode of Blue Peter

I hope the ground Crew had more control over the elephant than John Noakes!

They don't make TV like that these days

Dammit! Stop spoiling my snarky remarks with you vile facts!

Honestly, I thought that the RAF still controlled the training of pilots and aircrew for both services (and gave the FAA the lesser choices) well into 43. Anything to that or am I just completely confusing it with something else entirely.

You sound like a pretty cool boss. What would your policy be on playing AE on company time? If you permit this, just what line of business are you in? Are there internships available?

But I am here to tell you that it doesn't really take all of that much ( free coffee, free soft drinks maybe, lunch/dinner brought in, sensible leave policies and so forth ) to keep people happy. And a happy group of folks is far more productive imo than an unhappy one. It simply requires work ( somtimes a lot granted ) by upper management to implement.

ok, enough of my ranting.

Stuman,

You sound like a pretty cool boss. What would your policy be on playing AE on company time? If you permit this, just what line of business are you in? Are there internships available?

Yeah. Which reminds me....<straightens tie>....umm....Stu....sir........ummm.....GFU just graduated.......ummm......from college.....with a degree in.....ummm......accounting....umm......

Dixie (with apologies to non-British who won't understand the following), but that picture
brings to mind a famous episode of Blue Peter

I hope the ground Crew had more control over the elephant than John Noakes!

They don't make TV like that these days

Thanks for that - I didn't think to look at You Tube. My memory was playing tricks too. A) I thought it was Noaksey that fell in the do-do! And b) there was no Corsair in sight........

Thank you. We are a 22 person CPA firm, (making one's living billing by the hour has it's own challenges ) and I am very fortunate that we have a great group of folks.

So many management teams seem to forget what it is like to be a non-owner or non senior management member. And I have been invovved in enough situations like Nik mentioned where the rank and file are asked to make sacrifices ( which most people are willing to do when the reasons are explained ) but later when conditons improve are not allowed to share, even a bit, in the increased pie.

I know this is a generalization, and pat answers are worth nothing. But I think a lot of business organizations are not well run. But I guess in a way that is a good thing for guys like me

Anyway we run a very tight ship as far as our allowed internet usage policy. Mainly for security purposes, but also because we are always busy, I lead by example. I never use my PC at work for anything other than work. But I also live only 7 minutes away
