Could a kind soul please help me with modding the counters?

A quick step-by-step guide would be much appreciated, like in explaining how exactly to deal with the layers.

I have PaintShopPro8 installed, but have only ever used it for simple stuff.

EDIT:

Ah, finally found it out by trial&error.

WIP: All Red Army units get red counters, guards formations get a golden frame.

1st try:

And some fooling around with the German units:

Hmm... maybe a bit overloaded. Here's something "cleaner":

Comments&criticism welcome.

Hi mate,

Just my 2 cents- I like the counters back ground on the other 'counter thread' with the eagle and the star http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2682014
But I dislike the German unit id- the Nato ones are a much easier read.

Could the Soviet red be more red, like on the German flag?

And maybe German field grey?

cheers

good work

Field grey and lighter red. Need to keep experimenting, thanks for the suggestions.

I don't want to overload the actual counters, maybe I'll come up with something for the "selected unit" box.

The red is a big improvement already

You could have guards units as a green- olive green, khaki?

The screenshot was from the 1944 campaign, quite a few guards formations by then.

I want to keep all Red Army units red, so no green/khaki ones. I'll make the golden edging a bit thicker to spot them more easily. Changed Hungarian counters and further tweaked "Red Army red". Slowly getting there.

Hi!
I have so far made very small changes exept for the map.
But a little red colour click in the pz and mech sign on the counter makes these units very easy seen.
At least enemy units. (the own red colour is modified a bit by the underlying colour if using show formation colour on.)
( I cant go around that)

Nice idea, goranw. Pity we can't have more counter customization.

Changed Italian, Romanian and Hungarian counters:

EDIT:

Changed Finnish counters.

Hi!
Another example of my simplified unit modding. Just text. Easy to see.
Not interfering with the formation colours.Zoom 2.

Hi!
This is a variant that I now use.
Seeking "easy to read"
Made some changes to the earlier one
(ex put in an aircraft picture).
Formation colour is of course working.
In the unit box I use the exellent
one with German symbols from
Geyerfalck.

Hi!
Since the units have German abb. they are intended to be used on the German " Op. planning map".

I actually like the red counters a lot more than the original ones.  When you get done with your experiments you must share sir!

Just for fun I experimented with round counters for the Soviets.

Roundheads versus Squareheads.
