ORIGINAL: rtrapasso Well, they started rolling blackouts across the state, supposedly 15 minutes at a time. Except they forgot to turn ours on, and i couldn't get through to the power company for ~4 hours... it got pretty chilly in here. The power is finally on (very shortly after reaching the power company). Rolling blackouts ??? I guess I'm about to give offense, but are you sure you aren't in a third world country? We had them in LA too. I think both CA and TX have bigger economies than Sweden. Sure they do. I still have never experienced that. I actually had to google it to see if it meant the same thing I thought it did. Well, its a big deal in the news recently so it wont really be a political thing, but there was a recent engineering survey released which came down really hard on pretty much every aspect of American infrastructure (from roads and bridges through utility lines and sewers). My first reaction to NY was, why bother repairing it? The way it looks, I'd level the place and start from scratch. Give me a break. Someone who thinks our roads poor on balance has never been across the border into Mexico, anywhere in central Asia, South or Central America or Africa. For the staggering miles of paved roadway in this country, we do pretty darn well. If by infrastructure, you also include electrical generation, oil refineries, seaports, rail, mail and parcel delivery again we're fine. Yeah, we've some bridges that need attention (COUGH) Minneapolis bridge Collapse (COUGH) and some sewers and water treatment facilities that are in dire need of upgrading. We ain't third world and we don't need to adopt a scorched earth policy in our (misplaced) envy of others overstated societal improvements, Comrade Red Mouse. I'm not structural engineer. In fact, I wasnt even trying to have an argument. I just thought that it was a valid thing to point out to Per. Point taken, and sorry if I pissed you off Andre. I know from personal experience that your infrastructure is good. That's why I got so surprised about that rolling blackout.
