Imperial Japanese Headquarters report December 1941

Philippines & Indochina:
With the rapid expansion of occupied territory following our southern offensive, we've had to deal with an increase in partisan activity. In the southern Philippines and near Saigon. Fortunately we've managed to eliminate the enemy forces before they can become a real danger.

Central Pacific:
Our main strike force has withdrawn from the Hawaiian theater and is now ordered to launch air raids against the US garrison on Wake island. The attack succeeds in destroying the enemy fighter squadron and inflicts moderate damage to the Marine defense force, but is unable to destroy the coastal defense battery. The fleet withdraws to the south west but stays within striking range of the island. We will need additional air support if the light landing party we have assigned to occupy the island has any hope of successfully invading next turn.

Malaysia:
After landing north of Singapore, our landing forces attacked and occupied Port Swettenham. With the supply line now open to Bangkok and Saigon, the Imperial marines are in position to attack south into Singapore next turn. Additionally, fleet units are assembling to expand the assault further south to Jakarta and Surabaya. The Imperial Command has deemed those resource centers as prime objectives.

Imperial Japanese Headquarters report January 1942

China &Siberia:
With winter conditions effecting readiness, our actions in the north have been limited to a bombing strike against Irtusk, and artillery and air attacks against Chinese forces near Wuhan. Both declared moderately successful.

Wake Island:
Imperial command is determined to remove the enemy presence at Wake. A carrier strike is deemed necessary to soften up the US forces. Unfortunately the coastal battery survives the attack. It is decided that the landing forces should proceed regardless... 31 combat rounds later 4 battalions of SNLF troops surrender to the enemy. After this debacle, IJN command decided to commit the rest of the main strike force carrier air against the garrison, which is promptly destroyed! Fortunately additional ground forces are within range and the island is finally occupied by Imperial forces.

Singapore & Sumatra:
Imperial marine forces supported by air and naval assets attack and overwhelm the British defenses of Singapore. An airborne landing secures Medan on the northeast coast and an Imperial Marine force is landed just north of Jakarta.

Papua New Guinea:
Wewak and Rabaul are occupied. These new conquest will give us a base of operations for future moves against Port Moresby and Guadalcanal. Intelligence reports both of these objectives are well defended
by Australian forces, so additional strength will be needed to deal with them. With these last landings the IJN command announced it has attained 111 victor points. If the Allies don't retake something this turn we will have 1 victory turn under our belts... time for some sake.

Imperial Japanese Command report February 1942.

Dutch East Indies:
The enemy has reinforced Jakarta with troops from India. Japanese forces attack but are unable to capture the resource. Heavy naval support is then tasked with reducing the defense and blockading the port to prevent further support. HQ assures the Imperial Command that they will secure the objective next turn however it will likely be heavily damaged.

Papua New Guinea:
Naval landing forces occupy Lae on the the north coast. We hope to use this as a base for operations against Port Moresby. Reconnaissance still indicates enemy ground forces defending Cairns in northern Australia as well as a strong garrison on Guadalcanal. Additional resources will be needed to help neutralize these enemy threats.

Elsewhere, continued bombing attacks against Irktusk and artillery and air attacks against the Chinese near Wuhan.
Major Allied counter actions have yet to be encountered. Location of US/British naval forces unknown at this time.

A fascinating and profoundly interesting AAR! Hard to say who is winning. I was surprised to see the Soviets commit significant resources against Japan, who seems to be doing well in the historical terrain-grabbing. If the US does not come in soon, all of the Pacific mighjt go down the drain.

I wouldn't say I've committed "Significant" resources in Mongolia, at first I just threw whatever I had in Nomohan against the resource at Mukden to buy 1-2 turns for the garrison at Vladivostok to dig in. That seemed to work. Since then i've just been building a small blister at Vlad that will have to pop sooner or later. I'm hoping Japan will end up paying the 20PP at some point.

Imperial Japanese Headquarters report March 1942

Dutch East Indies:

After last month's failed assault on Jakarta, air strikes have been ordered to soften up the Dutch defenses. The follow-up ground attack by the 4th Imperial Marines captures the heavily damaged resource center. Further east the 1st Imperial Paratroopers make a successful air landing near Surabaja. Additional naval support attacks the garrison preparing the way for a direct assault next turn.

Papua New Guinea:

The enemy garrison at Port Moresby appears to lack strong air defense capacity so a air raid is launched against them. The attack enjoys moderate success and we return to our carriers without loss.

Winter conditions continue in Siberia and interior China. Artillery attacks are launched near Wuhan, but otherwise the front is quiet. Still no indications of American or British naval activity in the Pacific or in the Indian ocean.

Here comes another big animated gif... Apologies to anyone without broadband.

Highlights:

1) GE retakes Helsinki, or what's left of it. The Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe strikes were fierce enough to make us retreat back toward Leningrad. Toward the end of winter we brought up some more Katyusha's to keep Helsinki in check.

2) Leningrad front remains mostly stable. Soviets tried an armored punch at the German artillery support but were beat back. Battery and counter-battery operations continue all winter long around Novgorod. Soviets are able to maintain the front due to winter combat bonuses. At times were were even able to inflict local losses on the Luftwaffe with inferior forces due to the winter combat penalty for GE.

3) Moscow front also remains mostly stable. Southern approach to Moscow slowly captured by Germany over the course of the winter. Again, mostly trading arty here.

4) Voronzeh - Saratov rail line serves first as an axis of German advance, however GE forces withdrawl upon making contact with Siberian reserves. The Soviet counter-attack is mostly fruitless due to GE withdrawl and lack of APs necessary to pursue. Note to self - don't try to equip your armored columns with trucks in October, they won't have enough APs to go more than 2 hexes during winter. They have to be at 100% readiness going into winter, or better yet use halftracks. DRommel withdrew his forces out of Soviet airspace and waited till good weather to try his advance again. It's now May and there appears to be a massive amount of gear coming at Saratov. It looks like the North-South rail line will be cut for the summer of '42.

5) Rostov-Stalingrad defensive line holds throughout the winter. We've got a pretty good defensive force here with strong Flak. Also, Germany does not seem to be committing themselves here as strongly as up to the North of Stalingrad. We hope to hold the Caucuses for this summer. Our biggest problem will be getting new gear down here, there should be plenty of supplies from the resources to the south.

Here's the Kills-Losses for Soviet player through the start of April 1942:

I don't think SU prognosis is very good for summer of '42. I'll post another AAR summary if I'm still here when the snow flies at the end of the year.

Not much for the west to report. trying to secure africa and get all naval forces upgraded. Building a fleet to start our advance in the Pacific and generally moving forces around. Cant show any SS right now but will as soon as the action starts up again.

Summer offensive

First screenshot: positions after winter +1
Objectives: North = purple; is to attack and capture Leningrad,
then advance to the north of Moscow. Mostly inf supported with air and hugh numbers of Art (30+)
Center = army-green; is to keep the pressure on Moscow with art and smg’s
Center-south = Yellow; is also to keep pressure on Moscow but also to move further
to southern border off the city.
South = lght green advance to railroad then go north and/or south.
Keeping Russia split in two is imported, when Stalingrade could be captured.
Then this would be the end for the southern Russian armies. It’s there only
production center.
Most south = rose: keep on the pressure on those southern armies and help
to conquer Stalingrad.
krim = lght blue: take Sebastopol

Imperial Japanese Headquarters report, April 1942.

Enemy long range bombers made a major air raid on our resource center of Brunei. Fortunately the Imperial air force was in a position to intercept and the enemy bombers suffered heavy losses. Light damage to the resource center was reported.

The Chinese and Siberian fronts remain fairly quiet with the customary artillery strikes along the Wuhan sector.

After preliminary air attacks, Imperial paratroopers assault Surabaja and secure the resource center for the Empire. Fleet units are regrouping and conducting refueling and reconnaissance operations.

Imperial Japanese Headquarters report, May 1942.

This has been an eventful turn.

Russian fighters launched a air strike on units stationed near Mukden. Imperial Japanese fighters engaged the enemy with superb results. The high experience of our fighters seems to compensate nicely for the fact that the enemy aircraft are faster and better armed.

The Chinese front remains static with artillery actions near Wuhan.

In the India-Burma theater, Reconnaissance flights confirm that the Enemy long range bomber attacks against Brunei where launched from a newly constructed air complex on the Indian-Burma border. Imperial long range bombers launched an attack and destroyed the enemy threat on the ground and nearly demolished the airfield.

Along the north coast of Australia, Imperial naval air units launched an air strike against the enemy garrison of Darwin. Moderate damage was inflicted. All attacking aircraft returned safely to their carriers.

Further east, the main force battleship divisions launched a naval shore bombardment of the garrison at Port Moresby. This was followed by an air strike from Imperial naval air squadrons. Imperial marines landed to the south east of the port and additional ground forces including the 7th Imperial Marines, crossed the Owen-Stanley mountains and attacked from the north. The port surrendered after a brief fight. Command reports only light losses to Imperial forces.

The Emperor is pleased.

OKW report

N-Africa:
Continuous fights between Italians forces and allied forces
But nothing is decided jet here

France: All quiet

Russia:
Last month the Russian air force of Stalingrad, did an all out attack on our leading panzer units towards the city. We were decimated. It shows that the Russians have strengthen their army not just by conscripts but also whit new and good equipment.
In view of this the okw decided against an all out attack on all fronts without preparations and concentrated forces.

An air attack (2) on the concentrated art units
And last the destruction of a unit that defended the perimeter of the city Stalingrad

North; area Leningrad

We launched an all out art and air attack on art units concentrated at the river (1)
They continue to shell our troops so preventing a good attack on the city and also to be major thread ones the city is taken by supporting a counter attack.
The art went well but our air forces did get some heavy beating, doing to flak and two fresh fighter units
but overall we pleased with the results.
Also we could destroy a small unit across the river (2) and cut the rail line to the north

On other parts off the front there art shellings and airraids where possible.
We have to be carrefull, the Russians or growing in strengt but still we must move forward.

Just finished June of 1942.

Simply staggering amounts of equipment are being lost on both sides in Russia. DRommel must have 30+ arty units up near Leningrad - he can basically erase one hex per turn with just artillery. I don't want to see what happens when he turns his attention on Leningrad (which will probably be next turn).

I did manage to overrun the Luftwaffe airbase at Saratov last turn - the Siberian reserves were brought down from Kazan to help relieve pressure on Stalingrad. That eliminated 5 fighters and about 10 DBs. I'm expecting DRommel to hit the Siberian spearheads pretty hard next turn... :(

Also, Red Army Airforce hit the Luftwaffe base NE of Rostov inflicting another 10 air units killed. I'm sure he's still got a fighter force that's more powerful than my own though.

We tried to hit the Luftwaffe base at Tula too, but our lone armored division ran out of steam at the outskirts of the city and was pulled back via rail.

I'm feeling a wee-bit guilty over a gamey move I pulled: strat-moved some Katyusha's back behind friendly lines after advancing them in range of his Airbase NW of Stalingrad to crater the runways a bit. Learned that one from the George vs. Seille AAR. I'm pulling out all the stops here to keep the SU from collapsing.

It will be a while before screenshots appear - expect a recap of the summer's action once the snow flies.

This game is still going, we're up to October of '42 now. I'll be posting an AAR of 1942 Summer in a few weeks.

Japan still on the track to victory in the Pacific.
Italians are being kicked out of N. Africa
Soviet Union putting up a good fight, but appears to be slowly losing.
Allies land in Norway and capture Bergen.

Game still going, took about a month break.

No good news from the Eastern front.

It's October of 1942. Leningrad is cutoff and will certainly fall this month. We've been beaten back from our defensive line NE of Novgorod, and are now falling back toward Murmansk in an attempt to salvage what equipment we can. Stavka has evacuated out of Moscow which is also surrounded on 3 sides - we expect the Wehrmacht to shell the city heavily and attempt an assault before winter. Stalingrad holds, but a German army supported by the Romanians has broken out of Rostov toward the Caucuses. We're falling back to Grozny in an attempt to stall them from our oil fields as long as possible.

Luftwaffe is flying a new model of fighter now... we can no longer attempt to contest the skies. Red Army Airforce is now relegated to defensive operations supported by ground flak only.

At this point I'm hoping to hold on to as much as I can during the Winter of 42-43. Come summer of '43 I would be very surprised if we prevent them from conquering everything West of the Urals.

China:

We've made a massive offensive toward Bejing (~250 rifle supported by Inf Guns and some Artillery) and appear to have achieved some measure of surprise. Next turn will be the assault on the city, I'll let you know how it goes. All else static in China.

Pacific:

My intelligence sources indicate there may have been a major American amphibious landing attempted at Kwajalein that was repulsed. Not good news :(

Europe:

Allies have captured Bergen, but have not moved inland to threaten Swedish Iron Ore yet.

Good news from the eastern front
-Leningrad finally falls after a long and murderess siege, the losses on both sides where hugh.
The road to Murmansk seems to be empty now.
-Moscow gets here part of the war, an artillery barrage that wipes out half the production and defenders.
-In the south we capture Maikop, those supplies are very welcome with winter on the doorstep.
We also closed in on Stalingrad, taking the last fort before the city. A hugh air battle destroyed the remaining flying air defends above the city. He can’t jet match my fighter III’s.

Against the WA.
-Bergen is still occupied, but also for now sealed off. A big fleet is cruising for the Norwegian coast,
shooting at everything and everyone.
-North Africa is lost, and southern Europe has to be reinforced now.
-Will the WA come to help Russia, and where?

But winter is close

Screenshots of the summer actions will come soon
