And why are we wasting 30 P-40E's on the soldiers of Orange? Aren't they all POW's already?

Yes and not quite yes. He gets plenty of decent pilots out of training and a few more CVs.

The basic truth is the air war in scenario two will not go like the real war. You will never achieve air supremacy and you will struggle with even achieving local air superiority. It will be a grind all the way to the home islands. No big deal as long as you adjust your expectations.

His Navy remains fragile however. Sink his ships! He can't replace them.

Yes, it is beginning to look like the old strategy of achieve local air superiority, take the next island under air umbrella, build base...lather, rinse, repeat isn't going to work.

Better perhaps would be carrier engagements without substantial land based air.......in other words, the Central Pacific

Admiral Lord SPrior;

1) We are going to need a "shedload" of fuel at Perth.

2) Indomitable has to go back in 4 days. Might as well save the Fleet Air Arm squadrons and bring them with you. One of the RN carriers in NZ lost her fighters in some dreadful oversight.

2) Dragon and Glasgow have to go back in 7 and 20 d respectively. They are both in TF 61 wherever that is.

3) You could get a few more transports by converting your RAF squadron to DC-3's. There are also 9 C-47's in inventory. You could start to fill out one of the understrength USAAF squdrons and use it.

4) All USN and RAN ships upgrades should be done within 3 weeks. I am sending New Mexico back to Pearl as she can't upgrade in theater. Pennsylvania, Idaho, Nevada, North Carolina and Repulse will all be ready if you go by sea.

But, as a pragmatic observer of said universe, my advice to you is to start channeling (in the best tradition of Hillary Clinton) not Eleanor Roosevelt, but an old 1st Mar Div Gunnery Sergeant and take to heart the words, "Dry your tears, dearie, and keep smoothly feeding those ammo belts into this .50 cal I'm firing! Somebody's cousin apparently has the contract for those crappy Fulmars. We are wallowing in Martlets too. Maybe they can get into the fight more. Perhaps we can sell some MiG's to Ecuador or something.

Only 3 Aussie Kittyhawks used and 50 in the pool.....

That looks like an under-used resource.

Yes..it's the restrictive rules of engagement.

When we take Wyndham and the Japs start sending over 50-plane Tojo and Zero raids every day the resource will no longer be "under-used"

Clearly, the threat of a seaborn attack in Northern Oz has occured to the wee Jap dobber bigwigs. They are scouting Perth with wee Jap dobber submarines and they have reinforced Port Headland.

I am wondering if Melbourne or Adelaide might be better jumping off points. It is further of course, but it would likely be unobserved and I think the transports would have enough fuel.

Jap 38th Div has moved South and is 40 miles from Daly Waters.

It is not clear what Jap 38th Div is doing. British 18th Div should be able to make Daly before 38th Div does. The pongoes are a bit scruffy after marching around in the desert for a month but the Japs will have to contend with Allied air.

Probably, 18th Div can hold Daly if they advance with only one division. There are still 29,000 WJD and 66 Ronsons in Katherine so there is no wholesale evacuation from Oz. My guess is 38th is just going to set up shop and dig in as some kind of tripwire.

A small Spanish unit has been curiously attached to 18th Div.

I wonder if they're taking the part of the "observor" units that the Japs frequently have imbedded in their IJ Divisions. I can see it now:

[Matador peering through binoculars at artillery pounding distant Jap positions. Speaks into radio handset]

"Drop 50, right 200"

The 'chuffing' sound of outgoing artillery resounds from over the matador's left shoulder. He scans the target with binoculars. Large explosions and secondary blasts indicate a direct hit on enemy munitions and fuel stores.

"On target! Fire for effect! Fire for effect! OLE!"

I was thinking the Matadors would set up shop at a major road intersection with their capes and direct the IJA 38th to go the wrong way...

The planned Port attack on Noumea did not go off. Unlikely that Halsey lost his nerve. Probably weather. Nimitz is ashore at Suva but the transport group will ahve to retire from the Jap surface threat in action near Tanna.

First they would have to FIND a major intersection by Daly.

A 15in shell from Reso will spoil your weekend just as much as that from a 28knot BB.

Yes, especially if you are siiting in the cockpit of your Zero at Port Headland airfield.

Speaking of the pride of the Royal Navy, I think it is Dragon they are particularly proud of ....because they want her back in a few days.*

She may participate in the grand review and then get her clean lines back to the Suez...we need points.

* I can't remember for sure which CL's the admiralty wants back...there are two.
