Wow, Nik... that is one sorry story. It seems to prove something the gang I worked with at the bike shop back in Georgia used to say: "All women have snakes in their heads. It just depends upon whether you encounter the garter snakes or the pit vipers..."

The more that I hear of you guys discussing your ex-wives and ex-GF's, The more convinced I am that I hit the lottery in the wife department. So far , only Bruce Powers makes me feel humble , as he's been married six months longer than I. BZ Bruce, on 30 years!

a true lifelong and healthy relationship is like a diamond. rare and precious.

OT, Steve... is there a "belle" view in Nebraska?

Yes indeed, in both senses of the word. Of course , having been marrierd for almost 30 years , I'm not supposed to notice the 2nd . (It really helps to have perfect peripheral vision!).

Hey, Steve-that's awesome.

When do you celebrate your 30th? My wife and I will celebrate our 15th this summer. Yeah, yeah-I know. N00bs!

August 29. We ought to meet up and jointly celebrate. (Aithough probably not on the 29th, we are looking at going to Bermuda that week).

And we still need to have the WITP (AE) Midwest summit! (Sorry about last year falling apart). I took part in the 1st DC summit and it was a blast!

sigh.....

This month needs to end. I got a text from the X last nite......

she is getting rid of Chennelle, our pitbull. We've had her since she was 5 months old. (she is now 5) I can't take her at the moment. I almost punched a hole in a wall last nite. I hate her now. I didn't before. Messing with me is one thing.......messing with the kids is another.

Never liked February much. It seems to want to compensate for its lack of length by being extra sucky. The 2011 edition is not exception.

*sigh*...i used to like February...it is my birth month after all...

Nik, if you would like, I'm a registered member of ESRA, and a registered foster parent. Yeah, Springers, ok, but a pitbull ain't that far outside the paradigm.

Take not the counsel of your fears.

I'll be glad to take your dog. Ciao. John

thats great John....thx. The more options the better.

only prob is that i've not responded to her and am not sure how too.....

my dad thinks its a ploy of some kind. I'm torn at this point.....would she really give her up? Would she try to find her a home like Neo? I'd like to think so....but right now im afraid if i talk to her i'll lose it.

I have some people making inquiries here as well.

I'm open to suggestions on how i should proceed.

Hey dude-your long-term relationship just hit the skids. You're in 'improvise, adapt and overcome' mode, writ large. Who knows what the future holds? You don't need to make that determination now. It's OK to focus on your here and now to get through the next few days /weeks. Let the future go for now-none of us knows what happens then anyways...

I am a very lucky man. I have a great wife and a wonderful family.

Same here. To put up with me for over 15 years now is grounds for canonization.

Indeed. It also requires being unselfish every day. That is what I think the biggest hurdle for people is.

Just like Davy Jones's.

There's a phrase in a song that goes "It's not the love you have, but the love you have to give." Even if you aren't in a relationship, you can still invest yourself into others' lives. And you will be much happier for doing so.

Something I started doing that might be right down your ally is volunteering for a computer refurbishing charity here in Durham. They refurbish computers for underprivileged kids who have demonstrated an aptitude in school but have no means to get one. I'll bet there is something similar wherever you end up living. Highly recommended.

I would love to do that......

I am trying to be more social with friends here.....and will be playing "scrabble and Scotch" tonight at a friends house now that i am over Wall Punching mode. I know its early days......but i do think it will be a long time before i open my heart to someone the way i did her. I feel like the Franklin after the kamakaze hit and the battle against the fires.....they saved the ship but it was a floating wreck.

Of course I'm interested.

*Waves a hand* . Then, if I would have any chance of coming over, it would have to be sometime from the beginning of July to mid-August which is the period where I can use my vacation weeks.

I am serious. I just checked, just to know, roughly what an airplane ticket Stockholm - Omaha - Stockholm would cost. Answer was no more than ~$1500. Not too expensive IMO.

There is though, still a (detailed) plan to be made for when we can take out our summer vacation weeks. Not sure when we are going to do that. Have to ask my boss. Before I know that, I can't truly commit. But I'm very tempted

There's no rush to get a new relationship. In fact, it would almost certainly be grossly unfair to anyone you attempted it with. You need time to heal, rejuvenate, settle yourself down somewhere, and get a support network in place.

Just don't go into "closet" mode....be social. Get your mind off your troubles and think about other people. Immensely healing and beneficial.

Yeah! Sure we could make that time frame work. All I need is a couple months notice. Fair warning-I *do* have some obligations in St. Louis July 16-19, inclusive (annual conference). Wouldn't it be cool to work that in on the frontside / backside of the conference?
