ORIGINAL: ChickenOfTheSea Nik, I noticed in a thread on the main page you mentioned Gamble's book on Rabaul. I've been eyeing that one as a potential purchase. Do you recommend? you mean the "thread that shall not be mentioned' now that our boy and his pom pom supporter have arrived. Yes...highly recommended with one cavet. If you've already done some research on Port Morosby's air battles you might be disapointed at the lack of Shores like treatment in places. Also the 1943 era of Fortress Rabaul gets short shrift. Gamble doesn't really break much new ground except in providing some juicy specifics on No75 squadron's blooding at the hands of Tainan AG....(and no....they were not always outnumbered, were not at low power, nor had the sun in their eyes at the time) as well as 8th FG. He refines the relationship between Kenney, Mac and his subordinates and gives more info on the development of skip bombing that was less superficially covered in Bergerud. Thanks, Nik. I decided to post this question here because the main forum does get testy at times. Thanks to stuman for his reply as well. I'm also sorry to hear about the recent course in your life. I've had a couple of patches like that myself. I think many here are offering you good advice. Somewhere with a support system is good for the short term. at least. For the long term, you need to start thinking about where you might be most able to make the things you value most part of your life again.
