Just back from a day trip with my son to Seymour Johnson AFB for the Wings Over Wayne airshow.  http://www.wingsoverwayne.com

They did a fantastic job, and the traffic wasn't even bad getting out.  We were back on the highway 10 minutes after getting in our car!  This is the home of the 4th Fighter Wing's F-15E Strike Eagles, and they were out in force.  The sounds took me back to my days in Virginia Beach with all the F-14 Tomcats.    I can't believe I haven't been to an airshow in over 14 years!

The Commemorative Air Force was there with their Tora! Tora! Tora! show.  Quite impressive, but we never got a chance to check out their planes up close.  The highlight for me was the USAF's Heritage Flight, consisting of a P-51, F-4, A-10, and an F-15E flying together.

Alex absolutely loved it and was as impressed as I hoped he would be.    I love the Sounds of Freedom!

Watched Salt tonight. Bit of a "meh" film...

Yeah, my take too. Didn't that one have multiple different endings? Didja prefer any of the alternates?

To be honest, I couldn't be bothered to check out the alternates. The story just wasn't sufficiently compelling.

Every time I hear about "Seymour Johnson AFB" I have to stop myself giggling and remind myself that I'll be 38 in five weeks. Myself still isn't listening...

Goodness...can Phantoms really fly slow enough to stay with a Mustang and an Aardvark?

Now, now...technically it's a "Thunderbolt II". Doesn't that make it at least sound faster?

I think they quoted the landing speed of the Phantom II around 140 kts. The trick is that the Mustang can fly fast enough to keep up with the others!

As ugly/beautiful as the Warthogs are, they can fly faster than the P-51. Not much, but they can.

BTW, my son was very excited to see the A-10 fly. He loves that I call their guns "can openers."

I'm sure you're in no mood for humor, Stu-so I'll make it bad: Why the returns? Didn't they get done right the first time around?

No Aardvark in that picture. That was the F-111.

I liked this. Apparently some thinhs never change:

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter... They
contradict their parents, chatter before company .... and tyrannize their teachers. " Plato, but he said he was quoting Socrates

And this

"...The young people of
today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for
parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as
if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is
foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest
and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."

Loosely attributed to Peter the Hermit, about 1100AD
